Description: We are a French restaurant in the heart of Smithfield – in fact, we are three restaurants. You will find us at the end of a cobbled mews, approximately 40 yards from Charterhouse Square and Charterhouse Street. The Café is open for lunch Monday to Friday (12 pm to 2.30 pm) and for dinner Monday to Saturday (6 pm - 10 pm). The Café is the main restaurant on the ground floor serving predominantly provincial French cuisine. Upstairs we also have Le Grenier, a similar restaurant with a greater emphasis on grilled dishes. Le Rendezvous, our brasserie, is round the corner on Charterhouse Street. We have been here for nearly 25 years – but in case you haven't found us previously, we would like to invite you now.

I have been here on four previous occasions and am going again tomorrow 16th Nov, its so friendly and has a great charm, the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. The food is really yummy and they have a great wine list not to cheap and not too expensive, with some fine winesas well. Looking forward to tomorrows luncheon.

“As French as one can get in London!”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

This is VERY French - so expect French wait-staff, the odd gallic-shrug, and excellent food. It's been there for years and doesn't seem to have changed since we were last there ten or more years ago!

Having said that the staff clearly have as, apart from a single Aussie, the rest were all young and French. Mostly they understood us and we them. Service was therefore friendly and good. No rushing,no mistakes and there when they needed to be.

It;s not fine dining but doesn't set out to be. The terrine, the mussels, the fig salad and the scallops were all very good. So was the veal chop and the lamb whilst the cote de boeuf was fabulous. Great chips and more gladly provided when requested. A reasonable wine choice and desserts were good too.

London prices yes, but not silly London prices so good value.

Pianist turned up at some point - could have done without it to be honest!

Good atmosphere even on a quietish Monday, great service and very nice food. Definitely worth a visit.

“Friday night out”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

a atypical french restaurant, staff, accordian/piano the full works. Atmosphere is greta though it needs a crowd. Staff are willing even if a little hard to understand, english not being a first language. The food whilst interesting and imaginative is not particularly well cooked, the wine list is foine so ling as you know your way around regional french wine, pricing is so-so for central london.
Would i go again? On balance yes for the atmoshpere, but would order food that is less demanding on the chef

“Great for a celebration!”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

We booked a table months ago in order to celebrate our daughter's graduation from KCL which was held at the Barbican. The location and surroundings were lovely. Service was good along with the champagne, wine choices (a lovely Malbec at a very reasonable price) and the food. The only negative was that we were seated right in front of the door which was somewhat drafty each time new diners entered. This soon ceased when all the tables were full! We would definitely go back.
