“6th time - still as good as ever!”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Just brill! Again! Had a change to a beef burger this time, away from my usual roast. This was just as tasty - and the hand cooked chips were exquisite! Lovely table, really attentive but not overbearing staff. Just love the ambiance of this place - only wish it was around the corner rather than 400 miles away!

“Liked it but was disappointed”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

I had been looking forward to this meal for ages as had read so many great reviews.

Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed.

Good stuff is that the staff were really friendly and helpful and the decor is lovely. Relaxed atmosphere also. The drinks were well made. Bar staff lovely and front of house really friendly and smiley.

Food a little disappointing. I opted for the brioche which was yummy, but I did not see or taste any caramelised leeks, if they were in there it was not obvious.

I had the roast chicken for main. The chicken was succulent. The cep hash was ok. The chantenay carrots were pureed (which is not mentioned on the menu online) and too sweet. The portion was small for the cost and it was all a bit sweet and soft and lacked seasoning, and none of it was hot, just warm. I am not a fussy eater at all - just feel for the money it should have been really delicious and served hot. My date said the burger and venison croquettes were OK but again, there were no "mmmmm" noises being made.

The place is really lovely, I just don't think the food we had warrants the price. I did not mention these concerns at the time as I was on a date and it was not appropriate.

I would try the place again with friends though.

“Good for hanging out with friends”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

A meal at the Laughing Gravy is probably meant to have with friends. It seems like the place is a good place to chill on a slow day. The atmosphere is friendly and the service relaxed.

Food here was good when I went, but not the kind of place I would go out of my way for. Nothing special here, just solidly fresh ingredients and presented extremely well. The portion was not much, though, and that's why I think this is a good place for socializing rather than an overall satisfying meal. The restaurant is small and on a busy day felt cramped. A group of six is the maximum per table it can handle.

I did not like the restaurant's location too much. The best way to reach it is by car. I walked from Blackfriars Bridge, which was a long journey.

“Pleasantly surprised”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

Out of the way of the City but an easy 10-15 minute walk from the Southbank. A relaxed restaurant with a gastro pub feel.
Service was informal and efficient. A good selection of wines and a perfect venue for a long lunch. The macaroni cauliflower cheese is delicious and great with a nice glass of red. Desserts were impressive too. I had the rhubarb jelly with custard and pistachio brittle.
Definitely worth a visit.
