Description: La Porte des Indes is Indian cuisine on a grand scale, from the nine-metre waterfall cascading through the restaurant to the eight chefs in the kitchen. The food is just as spectacular, borrowing flavours from the former French colonies to add to its array of traditional dishes. Its central London location should mean you can spare some time for a visit to the Jungle Bar, where patrons are encouraged to throw peanut shells on the floor.

We have visited La Port many times over the years, always delivered with good quality food& service . As it is my favourite Indian restaurant in town my husband booked a Saturday night for my birthday dinner. Upon arrival we were seated in the bar area, we could hear staff shouting at each other, beer barrels being rolled in etc... Therefore we asked to be moved to our table. We waited & waited to order drinks, starters etc. I informed the manager & disappointingly things did not improve at all. The main course arrived, nan bread didn't, a 20 minute wait for the nan bread! Of course the main course had turned cold. The staff were disinterested and any polite requests were met with an aggressive response from the manager. At the end of our extremely disappointing birthday dinner, the manager offered no apology& just wanted to ensure we settled our bill.
We are voting with our feet, La Port your glory days are over, & there are plenty of other upmarket Indian restaurants in town,

You'de be surprised with large volume of this restaurant - 3 full stores with humongous seating volume. Off Oxford main street. Food quality is great, try the big platter was really good. Staff are ok. It wasn't that expensive.

an unprepossesing entrance leads to a canaverous series of exotic rooms with palm trees, fountains and painted walls.service was un- reliable among the general waiters but the head waiter chased them up when needed. food was nice but not special and the bill for two of us for lunch was £115 without any wine.worth going to for an event.

We love our Indian food and we thought we'd try la portes des indes because it has this French twist. Well.... I honestly feel they're past their best. Food was average, decor looks very dated and tired and the service was rushed. It is typical tourist trap. Don't waste your time or money, not worth it.

Never in a million years would you expect this oasis to be so close to the hustle & bustle of Oxford Street...indulge on the a la carte or venture for the Sunday brunch...either way you won't be disappointed. Any trip of mine to London would not be the same without a visit to La Porte!
