Discreetly tucked away on St Martin's Court between Charing Cross Road and St Martin's Lane, J Sheekey is a stone's throw from many of the West End's theatres, the cinemas of Leicester Square and vibrant quarters of Covent Garden and Soho. The Royal Opera House and Coliseum, Palace Theatre, Donmar Warehouse, Wyndham's, Duke of York and Noel Coward Theatres are close by, making the restaurant perfect for pre and post theatre dining. I really looked forward to going to this restaurant knowing that it was part of the Ivy group of restaurants and of course I wasn't let down. The staff were helpful and the food was excellent.

As with the Ivy there is a time slot in which you have a table for a certain period of time. I was a slightly worried that we would feel rushed, but we had lots of time and did not feel at all pressurised into leaving the table. The food and wine flowed nicely and we felt very relaxed.

I think the ambience of this restaurant is great and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to eat seafood.

Dined at Sheekeys for a pre-theatre meal on a Saturday evening. Firstly the service was excellent without being over the top. They are obviously expert at catering for theatre goers with the first question being what are we seeing, then proceeding to tell us how long it will take to get to our theatre (even took into account the fact I was wearing heels) and ensuring everything was served efficiently without feeling rushed. Secondly the food was excellent, serving some of the best fish dishes I have ever had. The ambience of the place is great and the oyster bar is a great place to either have a casual meal or wait for the restaurant to open. Will definitely visit again but won't book a play so we can linger for longer.

Whenever we book to go to the theatre in London we look to see if it's near Sheekeys. The Oyster Bar is a favourite of ours for a pre-theatre meal and maybe some champagne if we're celebrating! We love sitting up at the bar and chatting to the chefs about what to have on the menu. The octopus is particularly good as are any of the predominantly seafood dishes. Having enjoyed a lovely meal and excellent wine we have to drag ourselves away to go to the theatre. Mind you last time The Ladykillers was well worth it!

We had a lovely Saturday lunch at J Sheekey in London. The weekend menu is great value and the food just as fabulous as the a la carte. The Sheekey fish pie is amazing, full of fish and flavour. A good choice of wine is available too and the service is efficient and attentive but not too over the top. Definitely worth a visit.

After a previously very successful visit to this restaurant, we were very disappointed by our meal here this week. What was listed on the menu as "crab bisque", instead of being "a thick, rich soup, made from pureed seafood and cream", (as defined in culinary terms) was thin, watery and virtually flavourless. Scallops in the half shell were still attached to their shells, gritty and thoroughly unpleasant, chips served with my partner's fillet of fish were pallid and dry, whereas those served at an adjacent table looked to be crisp and golden. Was it something we said? Did we not leave a large enough tip last time? As patrons we are often advised to complain at the time, but why spoil an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable evening at the theatre by making critical comments and creating an unpleasant atmosphere at the outset? I would hope that ours was an isolated incident, but we won't be going back!
