I visited last year with another foodie friend who happens to have a gallery very close to the restaurant. She tried to get a Friday lunchtime booking as she knew I was travelling over from Belfast and it would suit us best. Unfortunately, even for a Friday lunchtime you have to book well in advance and there were no tables available so my friend put us on the waiting list. Happy days when they phoned to say there was a cancellation and we were booked in for lunch.

The food was totally amazing. We had the three course set lunch and let the sommelier do his job by picking the wines he felt would suit the dishes best. I tried the lobster ravioli and it will forever live in my memory as will the beautiful pork main course dish done six ways. Yes, it is expensive but if you really love food it is truely worth it.

No complaints re the standard of food and its presentation, but if one can complain about service being 'too' good, then that would be my complaint! The waiters seem to be doing 'laps' constantly around the restaurant to check anyone needs anything - whilst this is commendable, it feels intimidating and annoying. Slightly over the top! Expensive.

This completed our set of four 3-star dining experiences, in the UK, as they sit today.
Clare Smyth and Jean Claude run two stunning teams who are somehow co-joined and work in perfectly communicated harmony.
It goes without saying that the food is stunning - take a look at the snaps. In particular, the amuse bouches outperform the rest of London by some distance.
And the 5-way cooked suckling pig must get a mention - as in my view it is tastier and more original than both the Ledbury and the Rocca Brothers comparable offerings.
But the devil is so so much in the detail.
The bacon brioches, the walnut puree bringing alive the scallop starter, the thyme-imbedded crisps served with the cheese, the white chocolate coated strawberry icecream petit fours served amidst smoking liquid nitrogen.
You can never quite get over the effort, consistency and balance that Ms Smyth achieves. And the front of house family - from Lucas on the door to Jean Claude at the helm - are simply 10/10. How on earth can you, 2 services a day, 5 days a week seem so genuinely pleased to meet and greet complete strangers?
But they do. And it makes dinner at 68 Royal Hospital Road genuinely perfect in every possible way.
But the informal constantly smiling informality is incredibly well judged.
For me this lady and gent push El cellar and LMQS very very close. A cigarette paper between the three. Which means we just have to go back.
I have already re-booked.
Thank you.

This was our second visit after about 6 years and I am so glad we went back! The food was outstanding-truly memorable. If the truffle linguine is still in season, it is worth every penny-Yummy! The service was beyond attentive. They have recently been refurbished so one of the problems we encountered on our first trip (noise resonating off the hard surfaces) was no longer an issue.

Still not a fan of the ice-cream petite fours but only a small complaint for what was an exceptional meal! Can't wait to go back!

This was our second visit to this restaurant. After the first, a couple or more years ago, we have always said it was the best service of any restaurant, anywhere. This second visit did not change our view about that. We were delighted with the level of service and with the Prestige Tasting Menu which we opted for. We must return again vbery soon!
