“This place is a total dive”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

I actually very pleased that this place will evtually close down, it is a total dive. The food is totally mediocre and overpriced. I don't know who wants to pay £10 for a salt beef sandwich that tastes of medicine and has less filling than a newsagents £2 triangle sandwich.

This place gets away with murder because it displays in its walls the endorsement of its celeb patrons, actors and the like. So everyone thinks it's a national treasure when in reality it's a pricey dump. I think west end actors must be very desperate for a bite and very undiscerning if this is where they end up after a show or after rehearsals.

Ideal spot for a quick and fair priced meal or snack in the heart of the West End, with a good selection

“Just what was needed”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We happened on Gaby's by chance after needing some tum filling just before we went into the theatre. Falafel and salad in pitta, with a diet coke and coffee went down a treat. The place had atmosphere and character and lacked the sterile blandness that can be found in most chain establishments (Subway included). The loos weren't fantastic. We did leave a tip because the waitress was couteous and appreciated our need to get to the theatre for 19:30. We will return!

“AVOID”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

I had the misfortune of visiting Gaby's Deli just this past weekend, and I will not be visiting ever again.

I'd been given several recommendations about the quality of it's food, and that it's been a favourite amongst West End theatre-goers and actors for many years. Clearly, actors are a segment of society devoid of several of their primary senses - the ability to determine whether food is nice being the most prominent. Either that, or this place has gone downhill rapidly since Matt Damon apparently dropped by.

First off, the decor is reminiscent of a back-street abortion clinic. Walls covered in tiles that were somehow looted from a third world public lavatory. The lavatory itself was cramped and filthy, and there was no handsoap. It also reeked of cigarette smoke, and the hand dryer produced about as much hot air as an aged politician wheezing on a shisha whilst riding on the Hindenberg during a summer heatwave.

Cutlery was dirty, and the waiter seemed rather absent-minded. This translated to one of the party receiving a salt-beef sandwich when we'd asked for a bagel. Seeing as I couldn't wash my hands with non-existent handsoap in the toilets, I took the plunge and ate my salt beef sandwich.

Over-priced muck. I cannot believe this place charges nearly £10 for what amounts to two pieces of soggy bread, and a load of microwaved pink rubbish, the origins of which were somewhat questionable. Subway churns out nicer food than this place.

Another diner ordered soup, but it was so watery, and the portion so small that she had to order something else as it lacked any substance whatsoever, and left her feeling unsatisfied.

This is not a deli. It's an over-priced, over-hyped, filthy, miserable little carbuncle of an establishment. I've been to better workmen's "caffs" in Brixton which didn't leave me feeling like I'd just been mugged and poisoned at the same time.
