Description: This traditional Italian restaurant, reputed as “A village restaurant in the heart of London”, prides itself on its 'family run' feel yet maintains an air of professionalism when it comes to the service and the authenticity of the food. It feels like home – if Italy is where you're from. It offers the kind of meals a mother would be proud of. The decor creates an intimate ambience with antique furniture and pictures making it an ideal business venue at lunch and perfect for a romantic dinner a deux by night. Patrons who can be found here are a host of regulars, celebrities, tourists on the trail to and from the nearby British Museum and theatre luvvies. The regulars are a-plenty, for the place tends to bring you back, just like Rome's Trevi Fontana. Menu highlights include Crab Meat and Prawns Salad, Risotto Salsiccia & Barolo, Pappardelle with duck meat & Sage, Whole Grilled Seabass, a Prime Scottish Beef Filet with Blue Cheese and a the traditional Tiramisu which is a must to try. But don't worry, if your favourite dish is not there, Our senior chef’s are more than happy to accommodate your request! We cater for any occasion and up to 35 people on our private room. T & C Apply. This is the place where you can enjoy a relaxing evening out. In fact, you will relax so much you won't want to leave!

I was taken here by someone who has been coming here for decades, and it his favourite restaurant in the West End. That is some recommendation! It is in a quiet pedestrianised passageway - no cars - and it has a few tables outside which are good for al fresco dining. We sat in the main restuarant, which is "cosy". An overspill basement room is also available.

The outstanding feature of this restaurant is the personal service from the proprietor and his charming staff. We were treated like one of the family.

Food is fresh and well cooked. The portions are generous. I would say that the cuisine is homely, and not particularly imaginative, but in any case the prices here are in the middle range, and there are thousands of Italian restaurants in London who are competing with each other. You will be in safe, if a little unadventurous, hands here.

Oh yes, and we were offered a limoncello liqueur each "on the house" at the end. A nice touch.

“Very highly recommended”

My boyfriend and I ate at Da Paolo before a theatre show earlier this month. I booked online in advance to make sure we secured a table and I received email confirmation within a few minutes – the email very helpfully contained a link to a map of the location – great for us ‘out of
towners’.

It was quiet when we visited, with only a few others in the restaurant, but that was down to us eating early, before our show. Therefore, I'm unable to comment on the atmosphere when busy.

What can we say about the food, however, other than we feel we ate the best Italian meal we’d ever had – and we’ve experienced a fair few in our time! We had garlic butter prawns and calamari as starters – both as moreish as each other. Followed by lasagne and prawns with saffron rice for mains (we each stole a bit of one another’s as they were both so good).

Fabulous little ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ place with lovely friendly and efficient service, good prices and above all, excellent food. We can’t wait for an excuse to go back to London so we can go again - perhaps later in the evening next time to experience the restaurant in full flow. It really was that delicious.

Very highly recommended.

I have eaten at Da Paolo's on many occasions and have never been disappointed. The quality of the food is extremely good and the service better. I am usually in London on business, so mostly eat alone - even so, I'm always welcomed and treated with great courtesy. It is a friendly, cosy and quiet restaurant. As others have said, it is a "hidden gem" in London. Carlos and his team really do go the extra mile to ensure the dining experience is all you expect.

“Wonderful food, great service”

Superb food and friendly, welcoming service. Early evening set menu great value and loads of choice of really tempting sounding dishes. Authentic 'home cooked Italian' feel to the place. Tucked away on Charlotte Place, but well worth hunting out.
