Description: Tucked away on the outskirts of the City, Cafe Spice Namaste continues to impress London's Indian food fans. Housed in a 19th century former courthouse, the decor is an exotic mix of sumptuous fabrics and vibrant jewel colours. Chef-patron Cyrus Todiwala is passionate about authentic ingredients and recipes, including traditional Parsee dishes, so the menu is a far cry from the standard curry house fare. Diners can feast on familiar favourites like Goan prawn curry and chicken tikka makhkani, or opt for something more adventurous like the delicious ostrich bhuna.

This place is definitely a game of two halves - The food is both traditional and experimental, with some dishes delighting and some disappointing - You need to choose well to get the best out of it. I ate there yesterday and had a very fine mutton goda masala that was worth every penny, although it was let down by the accompanying dish of kale and chard which was just an underseasoned green soggy lump on a sideplate. Best bits are definitely the vindaloo, springbok bhuna and the country captain - shepherd's pie curried!

Much of what passes as Indian food in London is made by Bangladeshi chefs cooking north Indian dishes in a manner that they think will appeal to the western palate. At Cafe Spice, I get authentic Indian food as it would be made in Indian homes (the dhansaks and the Goan curries for example). And yet, there are innovative twists (the use of kangaroo or ostrich for example) that adds to the excitement of eating here. The impeccably sourced ingredients, the authentic flavours, the warm and courteous service, all of these are reasons why I have kept coming back to Cafe Spice for the past 14 years. Hats off to Cyrus and Pervin!

We were looking forward to this having seen Cyrus on Saturday Kitchen however the food proved to be lacking in flavour and fairly average. The Maharaja at Benfleet is way ahead. The value for money could have been better. We paid £83 for 2 courses and 2 drinks for 2 people.

I went back to Cafe Spice Namaste this week. I've missed it so much! The food is just divine and such superb tastes, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Had tandoori duck sausage followed by Goan King prawn Curry which were outstanding. Also got to sample the Keralan Cod which was unbelievable. I always leave wanting to go back for more. Cyrus and Pervin are such lovely people and really make you feel at home. Can't wait to return. Simply the best Indian food ever.

We went there on a Saturday night and had a blast. The staff very extremely accommodating as we had some fussy eaters amongst the group, but once we ordered, the food arrived in good time and was delicious. Would definitely go back.
