At the end of May 2019, I took 24 students over to London for a week, and we stayed here in Wombat's City Hostel. On the whole, it was a very positive experience.
It's most definitely a hostel for young people and backpackers more than for businesspeople. Those seeking quieter rooms should request a higher floor, and not overlooking the internal courtyard that guests can use for games, drinking and smoking until 10pm.
That said, for young people, this is really an excellent place to stay. The hostel bar is constantly full of people, and the hostel provides a wide range of activities, services and utilities for guests. There are endless opportunities to meet new people to talk to and travel with.
The Tower of London is just a short walk away and, perhaps more importantly, so is the Underground. Both Aldgate East and Tower Bridge stations are conveniently located, and the surrounding area is good too - there are a number of eateries, a couple of gyms, a few bars and pubs nearby. The staff in the hotel are friendly and accommodating too.
The rooms are good. They're clean, safe and well-lit. Basic, for sure, but not in a bad way. The beds are comfortable and clean. Each bed comes with a storage locker for your personal belongings, and the rooms are en suite, meaning you'll share a bathroom with however many people are in your room.
On the whole, a pleasant stay and I'd definitely go back.
