Description: Hakkasan Hanway Place is the original Hakkasan restaurant. This Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant designed by Christian Liaigre has recreated the luxurious glamour of the past by combining Chinese history, tradition and architecture. Wooden lattice screens carved out of dark English oak invite discerning guests for a unique dining experience with contemporary cuisine from Chef Tong Chee Hwee. The menu has a strong Chinese ethnic identity with an ethos of Cantonese cooking that will be informed by a progressive approach, underpinned by authenticity rather than traditionalism. Hakkasan Hanway Place has launched Dim Sum Sundays, a weekly lunch event hosted by resident lounge DJs, available every Sunday from 12:00 until 17:45.

A great excuse to put on a pair of heels and enjoy being well looked after. A little bit of luxury (the bathroom smells like an aromatherapy spa :) We savoured every mouthful and had cocktails for dessert back at the bar.

Our first trip to this centrally located Chinese restaurant which serves excellent food complemented by superb service in very pleasant surroundings (apart from the music!). We had the £80 signature menu with an additional dim sum starter. The portions were more than adequate and the food was well presented, varied and of excellent quality. Prices did not seem too high to me for the overall experience including the wine prices. I would have rated the restaurant five star overall but the 'techno' background music seemed too loud to me and intrusive, hence the four.

Not our first trip to Hakkasan and I hope not the last. Even though we have been for dinner before I was still taken aback by just how heaving the place was.... whilst dimly lit and atmospheric this place is also frantic and full-on.

So much so, in fact, that it resulted in the one negative aspect of our experience. The booking confirmation came with the rather curt warning that if you're 15 mins beyond your table time the table might be given away... this came with an invitation to come and experience the cocktail bar before your reservation; clever stuff. The only problem was that every other diner also took up that invitation and the bar was manic. Also, even more frustratingly, we were not sat at our table for over 45 minutes after our table time....because they were so busy probably. It does leave you with the impression that you are a number on a conveyor belt...

I have to confess to being rather irritated by the time we sat down and commented that the food had better be worth it.... oh, was it ever!

Dim sum and soft-shell crab starters were safe but delicious. The main courses were also divine. The unimaginatively titled 'Spicy Prawns' were a revelation. We only had them because the table next to us had them and they smelt amazing. The prawns were perfectly steamed to juicy perfection and sat proudly on a sea of spicy Chinese curry sauce. This was a great dish - so simple but perfectly executed with excellent ingredients. Other dishes also excelled.

Including (a decent bottle of) wine, cocktails, the food and service the bill came to less than £180. For the quality of the food we had this was very good value.

We will return... possibly at lunchtime!

this was an interesting take on Chinese food.
Definitely great atmosphere. It was an old underground parking lot turned into this great restaurant, very dark, but making use of the this darkness in an exquisite way to have light right at the center of the tables..
