Description: Bibendum, the flagship of the Conran gastro empire is housed in the historic Michelin building on groovy Brompton Cross. As you might expect, it delivers topnotch French food with impeccable service in a spacious chic setting. In fact, the food is so delicious that one is in danger of leaving the premises feeling like the Michelin man himself. Fabulous wine list to complement the menu and an ideal location to indulge in a little post lunch shopping on the cross or down Walton Street. With a set menu for lunch at £36 you can enjoy a 'grande bouffe' without a grand bill.

“Excellent meal!”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

I truly believe i ate the best venison entree at Bibendum that i have ever eaten! Tucked away upstairs above the bar, the restaurant is fairly small, which also means the noise level is moderate. Apart from the motoring posters (which are great) the atmosphere is a bit sterile. But the food and service more than make up for that! While perhaps not a broad offering of entrees (small restaurant the food was top-notch and the service was very attentive and friendly. Perhaps not the place for a hot spot night out for trendy young people, but this was a perfect spot for a family birthday celebration, highly recommend it.

“A very expensive disappointing evening at Bibendum”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

I was given a table for 2 by the window and my lady guest was cold. I mentioned this to the manager who apologised and gave her a cushion to keep the cold away. He promised to give us another table within 30 minutes which never happened. In the end he gave my guest a second cushion to keep the cold away. I ordered calves kidneys which were so seriously undercooked that I could not cut through two out of three. We did have 3 courses but my guest drank only non alcoholic drinks and I had three gasses of white wine yet the bill came to £214.93 including service

“Avearge”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

Our first time to eat here and we would not rush to return. Service was good but food left a bit to be desired. Snails were large and soft but lacking in seasoning, mozzarella with leaks looked good but bland in flavour, cod with crispy noodle over powered by the sauce.

“Very Disappointing”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

Two Italian friends of mine came to London and I wanted to take them to a special restaurant so I chose Bibendum. I was very disappointed as the staff was vaguely attentive but appeared to be rushed off its feet and looking forward to closing time. One has the impression that the restaurant is suffering because of the economic climate but surely in moments like these you have to pull out all the stops, even those you did not previously know existed, as if one wants to retain one's clients one has to make an extra effort.
After several visits to Shepherds (same proprietors) I do not think I will be returning to Bibendum as it did not live up to its reputation.

“Simple and well executed dishes... at a price.”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

Often when you've heard so much about a restaurant there's a real possibility it won't live up to expectations. Despite having driven past Bibendum for the last 20 years we've never gone, preferring to visit less hyped establishments. Our meal last night was enjoyable, with good service and a decent atmosphere. It wasn't perfect though and i doubt we'll be rushing back. The brioche that surrounded the saucisson in my starter was burnt. The batter on a portion of fish and chips had an overpowering taste of oil. Other dishes were superb though. Simple, uncomplicated food - it's not really about being creative or challenging in any way. Ingredients are obviously of an extremely high quality Overall prices are quite expensive, with the potential to easily bust through the £25 mark for a starter and more than £30 for a main. Wine was excellent, with some decent bottles at reasonable prices.
