I really wanted to like this place. Having passed it a few times during the day I was looking forward to having a meal there. I presumed that as the Shad Thames is a prestigious area, the restaurant would be special.

Unfortunately I found that the atmosphere was lacking (lights too bright, western piano music playing), and the wine was a bit cheap-tasting. The papadoms were ordinary - and with no lime pickle.

On a positive note, the veggie main course curry was delicious - clearly home-cooked, and with fresh ginger sliced into it. The waiters were friendly and attentive.

I don't know what locals think to this place, but as a casual diner, I'd want something a bit more special to make me return.

Have heard good things about this restaurant so thought we would try out the buffet on a Sunday which when looking on the menu on their website looks promising..madras,vindaloo etc. on arrival there was none of this literally the bog standard korma rogan josh Bombay potatoes rice bread and popadoms much of which had hardly any flavour love Indian food and this restaurant was a real letdown and we most definitely won't be returning.

The Bengal Clipper is a very good retaurant in the Shad Thames area, near Tower Bridge. Service was attentive and helpful with menu suggestions. The quality of the food was exceptional. There appears to have been a good number of locals and regulars in the restaurant

We've been to this place a few times and seen it packed a fair few years ago to empty in the recession
But after a dozen trips in the last 9 months I'm glad to say its nicely busy and the Food is very good
The menu is a mix of classics and Bengal Specials - mosy of which I've tried and can confirm they are a cut above the norm

Location means its a nice night out - give it a go !

This has the potential to be a great addition to the local restaurant scene - Shad Thames is crying out for a decent Indian restaurant. However the food, service and atmosphere here are all decidingly average. Pity...
