Dining options: Brunch, Late Night, Lunch, Dinner, Free Wifi, Full Bar, Highchairs Available, Reservations, Seating, Serves Alcohol, Waitstaff
Neighborhood: Covent Garden
Description: Set in a former warehouse in Covent Garden, Belgo Centraal's staircase descends into a Beer Hall with long refectory tables waited on by staff in Trappist monk outfits and head sets. But this is no silent order; it's bustling and noisy with many customers tucking into steaming bowls of mussels in a variety of broths and platters. There are also two main dining rooms and a selection of more intimate dining booths. Seeking something substantial? The stews include Moules Blanches cooked in Bruges beer with smoked bacon, all served with frites. From the Rotisserie, choose from beer basted spit roast Belgian chicken or duck, or peruse the extensive main menu which includes the veggie-friendly Artichoke stuffed with Wild Mushrooms, Asparagus and Pine Nuts. Of course, there are over 50 Belgian beers to taste, including Fruit Beers in varieties such as cherry or banana!

“Nice family dinner”

Felt a bit funny to be eating Belgian food in London but the food was great, the ambiance very nice, and the beers were wonderful. Also for the children (11 yrs and up) there was enough to choose from.

“Chain restaurant but good”

Seafood (especially mussels - house speciality) good, atmosphere OK; staff service good. Pub food. Price reasonable, especially if you can get a coupon from the net or a newspaper.

We always went after saturday matinees at the Donmar which end around 5. simple meals, chips and always something pretty good. food is average You have to wait to go down in a big lift, and get taken underground..not very appealing. we'll keep trying tho.

We used to eat here some years ago now and returned for a group meal, meeting in the bar.

The barman was slow and inefficient and seemed to begrudge serving drinks, which I thought was a pretty poor start to the evening. Past 7.30pm, he still had the red wine locked away. The waitress upstairs seemed not to want to serve drinks and only served some once the barman had disappeared for a period. She forgot our order and began serving others, which was less than impressive.

The house white was pretty horrid and I was disappointed that once I ordered one of the more expensive wines, these too were cheap plonk. Best stick to beer.

Once we were shown to our table it took an age for the waitress to come to our table. I don't think there were enough serving staff given the number of diners.

The starters that arrived were all of a good quality and attracted no complaints. The main courses, however, were a major disappointment. Three of our party are vegetarians and all complained the sauces were excessively creamy and did not eat much. The croquettes were tasteless. Those of us that had the chicken found it dry and overcooked and the sauces very commercial. I had the sticky chilli and ginger sauce which was most definitely from a jar and really not very nice.

It was a major disappointment as this used to be a decent restaurant. There are so many very good restaurants to choose from in Covent Garden and without question we will not be returning to this one. The only reason for two stars as opposed to one is that I didn't get ill.

“this place rocks!”

beer, gin, mussels, chicken, and fries - what's not to love! The shot sticks are awesome, the beer selection is huge and the food is extremely tasty. I highly recommend eating and drinking here!
