“Great Hotel, Great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2008

Stayed at this hotel for one night and had a great room with a view over the London Eye and Big ben and was on the 12th floor so great view. Did not spend much time at the hotel but when we was there the service was great and the room was clean and tidy. All the staff we met were really polite. The bar was expensive but it is London and the pubs are not much cheaper. Bout 5 mins from the London eye and abot 10 mins from big ben on foot. Waterloo station is just a quick walk aswell. While in London check out the Absolut ice bar *Booking is recomended*
Would stay in this hotel again.

Park Plaza is a stunning hotel with absolute fantastic views! We were rather shocked to have the London Eye right outside the window! The hotel is very modern and the staff are great - Especially the concierge one guy in particular Mark Highley - Fantastic service - Deserves a big big wage raise..!!!

I booked this hotel through their website as a treat for my daughter who will soon be 18yrs.We were going to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall that evening and also needed a hotel which was very close to Waterloo station.
On arrival by taxi at the Park Plaza we were met by 2 male staff who helped us out of taxi and took my daughter's wheelchair and baggage into reception.Checking in was very quick and having collected our suitcase from the store room,a staff member then took us up to our accessible room on the 13th floor.First thing we noticed was the extreme heat in the hotel and in our room.It was unbearable despite attempts to adjust the air conditioning it made no difference! The windows are all triple glazed and do not open at all! which we definetly did not like. Our room was spacious and the beds comfortable.Bathroom very accesible BUT do not like the frosted glass door as not very private. The food from the cafe bar was delicious, bit overpriced though but service was quick.Next morning we had breakfast delivered to our room which was wonderful and only cost £3 extra.Checking out was quick and the door staff very quickly hailed a taxi cab for us.
Loved the hotel but did'nt enjoy the overheating and would prefere the option to open the windows!

I stayed here for 2 nights booked through a travel agent at promotional rates, hence paid well below what the hotel normally charges. My first impressions were that the hotel was beautifully decorated and very contemporary. The room was excellent, being very spacious and offering a lovely view over London (from the 11th floor) For someone who is mainly used to staying in budget type hotels like travel inns, this was definitely more luxurious. Extras like toiletries, slippers, dressing gowns and a coffee maker were an added bonus. Cleanliness was very good.
I took heed of the reviews previously on here and went down early or breakfast at 8am on the Sunday. Yes, it was busy, but we did get a table without queuing and there was plenty of choice of food, which was very tasty. I guess later on it could have got quite hectic though. The pressure on the lifts was also apparant, only 2 lifts for the whole hotel. I am not averse to walking but not 11 floors!
I thought the wifi could have been free, it was £4.95 per day. It was free in the communal areas but not in the rooms.
My main complaint would have to be the temperature of the hotel and in the rooms. It was absolutely boiling. Now I am the sort of person that feels the cold and I hate being cold. But this was too much for me. I was so hot I felt ill. I couldnt sleep properly because of it. In the room was a knob marked cold and warm. I turned it to cold but there was no difference. The group I was travelling with also felt the same, it was far too hot. Also, you cannot open the windows in the room. This was the main problem for me.
Also, at 8.15am on Monday morning I was rudely awoken by a maid knocking on the door wanting to clean the room, something which I definitely did not appreciate at that time of day. My friends also got woken because of this.
There were niggles at check in, initially had no record of my booking, then my key wouldnt work on the 2nd day because I'd only been checked in for one night instead of 2. Most of the staff seemed to struggle with speaking English and sometimes did not understand what we were saying. The prices of the drinks in the bar were outrageous, but then again it is London I suppose. Overall, very nice modern luxurious hotel but there are some small niggles which spoilt it a bit for me.

Let's get the bad news out of the way first. There are three hotels in the County Hall complex - this is NOT one of them. It's actually 200 yards south, by a busy traffic junction and without a view across the Thames. I consider the name very misleading. Not only did the internet access in the room not work properly, but, incredibly, they expected you to pay extra for it. Hello , Park Plaza, this is the 21st century calling - are you planning to join us any time soon?

On the plus side, the hotel was very clean, very efficient, and our suite was (by London standards) very spacious: separate sleeping and living areas linked by a short corridor. The door on the bathroom was a bit odd, being made of translucent glass - definitely a suite to share only with family or close friends! The coffee-making facilities didn't include fresh milk, despite the presence of a fridge. We didn't ask for any because every other service involved an extra charge - but it emerged when we checked out that we could have had fresh milk on request for free. So good marks for service, but no marks for information.

The breakfast was very expensive so we didn't have it. Instead we went to the bagel shop near County Hall, which was much cheaper and perfectly acceptable (and staffed by people who were happy to spend time giving useful advice to tourists).

Reception were very helpful though the concierge was a bit miserable.

One thing saved this hotel from a "3" rating: a few days after our visit I got an automated email asking for feedback. I replied with the comments I've made above, and quickly got a personal response from the manager saying that he would look into the issues I'd raised. Maybe he will and maybe he won't, but the mere fact that he took the trouble to respond puts this hotel one level above the average.

Too many hotels in London are worn out, and staffed by people who do not care. Fortunately the Park Plaza was different. Quite a new hotel so all the rooms are still fresh. And for London the staff were very helpful. There was even a pizza-making demonstration for our eight-year-old in the kitchen at four o'clock on Saturdays.
It is a short walk from Waterloo tube and train station, which is a good start for sight-seeing - an all-day ticket is just over £5 for the tube with children under 12 free. And the London Eye is only about a hundred yards away. Try to get a room which overlooks the Eye and the Thames.
We paid for an upgrade which included drinks in the executive suite and also breakfast there, although the staff there had difficulty in coping with the numbers.
Reception desk is quite small and could get a bit chaotic if there are too many people checking in and out.
Overall, good value for money in London considering it is pretty central.

This was a one night stopover for us and we were looking for a hotel with a good location and decent standard but not willing to pay normal London rates.

The Park Plaza offers fantastic value. Although not right in the very heart of things it is extremely well located to reach the West End on foot. The tube is a very pleasant 3mins walk away passing by the Thames and Houses of Parliment en-route.

The design and quality of the hotel surpassed our expectations; modern and comfortable - maybe one step down from a Radisson SAS. Our Superior room was spacious clean and practical (it even had small tea point with its own sink). Given the amount of people decending at once for breakfast on Sunday the staff were very pleasant and effecient at getting us to a table quickly (as noted in other reviews get down early if you want to walk straight to a table). The staff generally were interested and helpful.

Overall a very easy place to stay offering good value. As a frequent traveller I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
