Winrose Hotel
Ranked #353 of 572 London B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 5, 2012

I chose this hotel based on the Tripadvisor reviews. I was looking for a moderately priced hotel in central London that wasn't filfthy or pest-ridden, as so many seem to be. The Winrose truly is as clean as everyone says, and our room was newly decorated as well. The room was larger than I expected, plenty of space for 2 people. We stayed for 3 nights and found the hotel to be very quiet, even though it was fully booked. The ensuite bathroom had plenty of hot water every morning. The full breakfast (included in the room price) was excellent, and the kitchen and lovely dining area were also exceptionally clean. The staff couldn't be more helpful and the manager was always available for help with directions, transportation or whatever was needed. If you have trouble with climbing stairs, ask for a lower room, there's no elevator. The neighborhood was very safe day or night, many restaurants are close by as well as drug stores, grocery stores, etc., everything within a short walk. 2 tube stations are within 2 blocks, Hyde Park and Kensington Palace are close enough to walk to, and the bus stops close to the hotel, also.

What makes this place exceptionally pleasant is its homelike atmosphere, cosy rooms and friendly staff. (I was amazed to be addressed in my native language at breakfast!) Great English breakfast by the way! Many thanks!!! Good Wi-fi connection enabled me to talk via Skype easily every evening. Perfect location: close to the tube and bus stops. And more, parks (Hyde Park and Regent's are both in a walkable distance, which is very convenient for travellers with children. Would definetely recommend this hotel to my friends.

Would def stay here again - good value (for London). Great position - very central and easy walk to Paddington. Very clean, nicely decorated hotel. The stairs are a bit of a pain and my room was right at the top of the hotel but the nice young man at reception did carry my bag up for me. I had a single room shared bathroom. The room was very small but I was impressed by the layout, they had made really good use of all the space. The room came equipped with heater, tv, kettle, tea coffee etc and toiletries. Good lighting - as well as main light there was a reading light by the bed and a light over the mirror by the sink.
Breakfast was included and was pretty good. The breakfast room was very bright and well decorated. The breakfast is cooked to order and there is also cereal toast etc. The staff were very pleasant.

Hey it's pretty good. Nothing to write home about. Nice central location. It's clean, the staff was courteous, and helpful. The street noise is quite loud as their is a hooka shisa right next door. So earplugs would do some good. You get a traditional english breakfast in the morning. No complaints mate.

A small hotel but must say perfect. Very clean & makes you feel at home all the time. Breakfast simply delicious. Excellent location for Oxford Street and main underground connections in London. Staff very helpful. Recommended +++++++++

Room Tip: Rooms on the main road tend to be a bit noisier.

A small hotel hosted us, 3 adults ( couple with adult daughter). Easy to find, easy to get access to transportation. Great for a 4 days visit, helpful staff, clean room, fine breakfast. Problems if you can't sleep because of noise from the street. A hotel we will like to return to.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a WC/shower.

I booked a "small single room". And small it was. 4,8 sguare meters. Next step down would be a hole in a wall, with a bed. No chair, because there was not place for a chair. No scrubb, because there was no space. Shower two stairs down. But my room (number 11) had some advantages compared to other rooms in this B&B: Big window with open view and silence. Most of the other rooms I would avoid. Either no view att all (just a wall a few meters away), or small windows, or very affected from traffic-noise.
The breakfast-room was large for beeing in such a small hotell. Good service. But the breakfast you better have just once. Only milk and cereals beside a poor standard English breakfast. Not that the quality was poor, but the contents. I strongly advise everyone booking a cheap London Hotel, to take breakfast excluded. Lots of very good breakfasts available near every hotel.
This B&B has, in my opinion, very good location. Not far from Oxford Street and Hyde Park. It´s spotless clean. Very small (14 rooms?). No lobby. It´s recommendable not to forget any valuble items in your room when you leave. You may never see them again.
PS. The reason I give poor grade for sevice is that I was given only one very small envelope of shampoo for 4 nights. And they managed to spirit away my camera-bag, which I forgot after leaving the room. (No one else had moved in, before it had disapperad. First time after hundreds of hotels such a thing happened to me.)
If you are prepared to pay 50% more you will get a 100% better hotel-room. (But not all expensive are good.)
