This is an area just to the South East of Tower Bridge, easy to get to by walking along the South Embankment. It is mainly a cobbled road flanked with warehouses that have been attractively converted into residences on the upper floors, and restaurants, bars and shops at ground level. There are still some attractive iron bridges linking some of the upper floors of the old warehouses together which is an interesting feature. Well worth a look.

I love this redeveloped area of London & have walked around it numerous times.
Shad Thames runs along the south side of the River Thames, set back behind a row of converted warehouses that house high class apartments & office developments.
The street is partly cobbled.
London Bridge would be the nearest Tube Station & given the name very near to the iconic "Shad"
The surrounding area is also today called Shad Thames, or Butler's Wharf & is full converted warehouses and newer buildings.
Plenty of places to stop & have a drink or some food.
A truly interesting area & shows how a run down area can be rejuvenated.

An area of London which is unique. The old Victorian age warehouses which stored all manner of goods in the old dock lands of London, restored and converted some 30 odd years ago in residential units, fascinating area to walk around. Equally similar is wapping across the river. This area supposedly inspired the story of Oliver Twist. Great view of tower bridge along the butlers Wharf riverside walk.

This is located on the south-end of the Tower Bridge as you can see it walking over the bridge along the east side. Converted from old warehouses, these are now shops and residences with restaurants facing the river. We would have come back to have dinner at one of the many restaurants to enjoy the view of the Tower Bridge at night but unfortunately it rained the next 2 nights that we were in London so we didn't get the opportunity. This would be very romantic I think! Oh well, next trip!

East of the Tower Bridge, you find this beautifully restored area.

The former docks and industrial buildings are now posh apartments, small stores and cafes or nice restaurants.

With the cobbled streets, the area kept its charm.

This piece of road next to the Thames is beautiful. Old buildings with wharf like charm. Lots of restaurants and other small businesses.

Two of my friends used to live in a flat here and I think it is one of the best areas in the city just to wander round (Wapping being similar in style of buildings and atmosphere). There are not many places to visit as such but the warehouse architecture has been lovingly restored (and respected when new developments have taken place), meaning that if you are lucky enough to visit on quiet day, it feels like one is taking a stroll through Victorian London.
