“Great location, comfortable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

We chose The Cleveland, via Trip Advisor, for its closeness to Paddington Station and its great reviews. We were nor disappointed at all. The reception on arrival was great, we had to wait a bit for our room to be ready as we were early, but that wasn't a problem. Our room on the ground floor was snug but very comfortable and included cooking facilities which is a huge benefit especially if staying for a while (we weren't). The hotel uses part of a classic terrace and the road has no throughway so it was very quiet. This enabled us to have a great sleep in after a long haul to get to London the previous day. We really enjoyed our stay which was greatly helped by the location of the hotel. If we are back in London we would certainly look to stay here again. Well done The Cleveland!

Room Tip: Our ground floor room double room was very quiet and had easy access.

Stayed in one of their family suites, two adults and two kids. Room was very large, massive bed, compact but nice shower room, handy kitchenette, dining table and sofa bed. Main bed was separated from the sofa bed by a vanity unit as wide as the main bed and about 5 foot high. Had several large windows but good blackout curtains, no road noisy as on dead end at edge of square.

Got breakfast ever day on free deal, not worth £10 per person and we bought kellogs minis as the only cereal was muesli. Used rolls and cheese to make picnic as got 3 smallish rolls each.

Sofa bed massively uncomfortable, both to sit and sleep on. I was given a spare camp bed so the kids didn't have to share and then they brought us another one unbidden, made a big difference.

Lots of shops nearby, sainsburys and simply food in Paddington station plus a little waitrose at the end of Leinster terrace next to the park (turn right towards Queensway tube). Ate at nice ask Italian near Paddington but didn't really see anywhere else we'd have gone with the kids.

Would use again as such a big room and great to have self catering facility.

I wish I could give The Cleveland a 4.5 instead of just a 4.

In my experience, what constitutes a good business is how the staff handles problems as they arise. There was a missed breakfast the first morning; after informing the front desk, our breakfast arrived on time each subsequent morning. I've been to places where the same mistake happens over and over again - I got the impression that would *not* happen at The Cleveland.

We checked into The Cleveland in the late evening and were given a warm and courteous welcome. Our room, Number 16, was on the second floor, which required either stairs, or elevator and half-flight of stairs. There is an espresso machine available in the lobby - very nice.

Our room was small by American standards, but perfectly fine for two adults. The closet/bathroom/kitchenette are all combined into a modular unit. The water pressure was *great*. The kitchenette provided everything we would need for our 5 nights there.

The view was of the interior space between the adjacent building. As we were only there to sleep and shower, I was fine with that. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. I don't think we heard any outside noise and I only heard (very muffled) noise in the corridor once.

The location could not have been better. The walk to the nearest Underground stations was 10-15 minutes. The walk to Paddington would have been shorter had the nearest entrance not been blocked for station reconstruction. We had to walk an additional two blocks around the station.

While I was there:
I wished there were more hooks - but the lack meant I actually hung things up in the closet, which kept the clutter down.
I wished the stools had been chairs with backs - but the lack meant I could move them easily and they didn't take up much room.

We stayed twice at the Cleveland on our recent trip, the first time in Room 12, the second across the hall in Room 14. Room 12 has more character since it includes an original fireplace and window surround. Room 14 is modern European and handicapped-accessible which meant the shower was the entire bathroom (actually that's sort of old European). Both rooms were very large, by London standards, and quiet. Each looked out onto a light well so it was impossible to know what the weather was. The rooms were very clean and the staff very helpful. The kitchenette is why we chose the Cleveland and it was very handy to warm things up and keep dessert and drinks cold. The bathrooms in both rooms also had light wells which was very nice to have natural light. The area where the hotel is located is upscale, as my husband said Porsche, Mercedes, Jaguars were many of the cars on the streets. It is a few blocks walk from Paddington Station, another big reason for our staying there, and near a couple Tube stations as well as restaurants and Hyde Park. Ideally located for us. We'll stay at the Cleveland again when we're in London.

Great room on first floor - quiet clean. Paid extra for Executive Deluxe Studio room as we stayed 5 nights - so had lots of room. Staff very helpful & friendly. Great location - have difficulty walking but had no problem getting to Paddington, Bayswater & Lancaster Gate Tube - even walked with luggage from Paddington. Enjoyed the walk from Kensington Palace thru to the Italian Gardens. Spent time here then back to the Cleveland.

Room Tip: If you need space suggest Executive Deluxe Studio room or larger

The staff at this hotel go out of their way to be of assistance. Barbara is an amazing woman to deal with, everybody knows her, and loves her. Her staff is well-trained, helpful, and really friendly.
The rooms here are clean and comfortable, and they all have a little kitchenette.
Three of us stayed here, each with their own room, and we were all more than happy with our room.
This hotel is on a quiet street, away from the noise of London city life. There are three Underground stations within a short walk from here. Queensway is a main shopping street a few blocks away, and Kensington Garden/Palace are really close.
Although the stairs can be an issue, I was in room 31 at the top of the hotel, for most rooms, access is not a problem.
A great place to stay!!!
If I return to London, this is where I'll be staying.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are quietest. Room 28-31 required walking up stairs. Rooms 3 and 4 are in the bott...
