“Fantastic Central London”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

I have recently stayed at this hotel with a primary school party. The hotel is perfectly located right opposite the Natural History Museum and therefore has easy access to all of the sites.
The rooms are surprisingly comfortable for a hostel and although the 'bathroom' was a wet room type 'pod' the shower was lovely and hot and a good water pressure - just no space! There is a coffee shop and a lovely terrace area which gave our children a bit of space to let off steam. The rooms are air conditioned but the controls are at reception so some of the bigger rooms that our children had were too hot even though we asked for the aircon to be turned up. My room looked out onto the back of the hotel and was lovely and quiet with excellent sleep quality. I would imagine that those that face the road may be a bit noisy. My only gripe with this hotel was the food. It really was very poor, the evening meal that we were served on our second night was stone cold and the packed lunch that we ordered was dreadful. A thin white breaded ham and cheese sandwich (no choice) which didn't even have any butter, a bottle of water, an apple, bag of crisps and 2 custard cream biscuits. The breakfast was better and included bread rolls, ham, cheese, yogurt, toast and cereals. Unless you are staying with a school group I would recommend eating elsewhere!
Overall this is a fantastic and economical place to stay to visit London particularly for groups.

Room Tip: Avoid the road side of the hotel.

The people that work in this hotel are so very kind in a natural way that we loved being their guest. Thank you guys!
The room was sober but everything you need when you visit London was there or was available at the desk. The elevator moved fast. Nothing wrong with Meininger Hyde Park, nothing wrong at all.

If you want to spend little money this is definitely a place to stay. I was positive surprised. The service and the location were excellent.
The quality of my bed could have been better.
I'll be going back there.

I have stayed in Meininger hostels before - the Cologne property is fantastic - so I was looking forward to my stay at Baden-Powell House.
Unfortunately, this is a perfect example of a brilliant German concept being ruined when translated into English.
My main beef with this property was the bathrooms. A 12-bed guest room featured only 2 showers - in those ridiculously uncomfortable and awkward one-piece drop in units that are so small you can sit on the toilet with one foot in the shower and the other under the sink. There are no shelves in the bathroom, and almost no place to put any toiletries, wash bag, or dry clothes. The entire bathroom becomes waterlogged after a couple of people have showered, and the ventilation system wasn't working at all in either bathroom. These single unit bathrooms are fine if you have them to yourself or share them with just one or two others - but 2 of them for twelve people is a bit much
There was one hand towel placed in each bathroom each day, but some of my fellow travellers insisted on using the hand towel for a bathmat, so there was no way to dry your hands save for a wad of tissue. Not very nice. On the third day of my 8 day stay, I explained the situation to the housekeeper and asked her to place an additional towel in the room so that one could be used as a bathmat and one as a hand towel. She gave me a blank stare. I asked if she understood - thinking that perhaps she didn't understand English, and she responded with a curt 'yes' and went back to what she was doing. No extra towel was left in the room.
The room was not cleaned very well. The floor was not swept at all during my stay, and an abandoned bag of food and toiletries that was on the windowsill the day I arrived was still there when I left. I was present in the room one day to witness the cleaning of the bathroom - the entire process took about three minutes and toilet paper was used for wiping the surfaces. It was certainly not thorough and the bathroom never seemed to have been thoroughly cleaned during the entire week that I was there.
I also had difficulty sleeping in my bed--the mattress was terribly saggy and should have been replaced or at least turned.
I chose to stay at the London Meininger because I have been impressed with their properties in other cities - the Mininger Cologne is lovely with huge, spotless bathrooms and the property in Berlin is one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in - but I will not return to the Meininger London and I would not recommend it for anyone else.

Grate location, super kind staff, clean place and a magnificent breakfast. And, I insist, the location is spectacular: within walking distance of Hyde Park and a zillion things to see and do, and very near to the tube station.
Take a walk to Hyde park, go take a look at South Kensington, the Royal Albert Hall, and a very long list of etceteras. This place is great.

Room Tip: Lower floor rooms can be noisier, as many kids stay there. Consider buying the breakfast: it is sup...

Everything was fantastic except for the payment.... They didn't accept my card so i had to pay with cash. For the rest of the trip my card was accepted everywhere so it wasn't a problem like "abroad autorisation" like suggested by receptionist. I recommend to try more than twice if your card have "problems" with payment at the hotel.
Except this inconvenience, the permanence was great!
