“An economical, comfortable, well located hotel, with a most friendly and helpful staff,...and breakfast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2009

I chose this hotel (on internet) for my stay in London based on reader reviews, and on its location in one of my favorite parts of London,...the Sussex Gardens area, only two blocks to the Tube and Paddington Station (with its high-speed train to Heathrow.)

Yes,...the room was small , as was the bathroom,..... (as expected in any London hotel), but both were spotlessly clean and well kept, and there was a nice view of tree-lined Sussex gardens. Perfect for a solo traveller. And, a filling breakfast was included.
( I must mention that four or five families were also at the hotel while I stayed there.)

Not only a most economical hotel, with a great location near Hyde Park,...but it had a special added attraction, which I challenge any other hotel to have:.... two of the most delightful, friendly , and helpful owners anyone could meet. During my week's stay, besides obtaining valuable information on the area, with its stores and restaurants, etc.,...I was able to chat with them and get to know them and their families.

In fact, on the Sunday when I had not made any plans,..they graciously invited me to attend a family birthday celebration at one of their homes ! Nowhere else could anyone find such a gem. Would I return, and recommend this hotel to friends?? Do I need to say ,...how could I do anything but !!

My girlfriend and her younger cusin stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Its very central (aprox. 3 min from Paddington subway station), clean and it has a very kind staff! It is also very cheap! Will come back in November!

we stayed there a group of six people in two triple rooms.the rooms were quite small (especially the bathroom) and not very beautiful decorated.we had a very rich breakfast every morning but the dinng room was small and we had to get up after 20 minutes for other guests to sit.overall the hotel was clean.the big advantage of this b&b is its owners.they are helpful, always smiley and funny.

My Dad and I traveled from Canada to London for his 70th Birthday. My Dad has never been to London and I knew he would feel uneasy being away from home, so when I read the reviews about the Mandalay, I thought it would be the perfect place for us to stay. Just as I thought, Dwight and his family made my Dad feel like the hotel was a home away from home. Their conversation, breakfast, sightseeing advice and accommodations made our mornings and evenings there quite delightful.

The hotel is a great buy for the price you pay. The beds are clean and the rooms well maintained. The washroom was small, but at least we had private use of it. One morning, we woke to the sound of the Queen's horses clip clopping by! I highly recommend this hotel if you want to feel at home in London. Thanks Mandalay!!

Great alround - few mins easy walk to the tube at Paddington - great value, smallish rooms and tiny shower, all clean and working order and comfy bed, just enough to eat fpr breakfast and as everyione says nice and friendly hosts. Sussex Gardens, and Paddington in general, is moving up market so this is excellent value.- get it while you can ! Tip - the Charles Dickens pub round the corner (on the way to the tube) is open to after midnight - its not great - but has Adnams on tap

I have been to this hotel 3 times and plan another stay for next year. Mandalay Picton House is a small family-run hotel, which is always clean with fresh and hygienic rooms. The breakfast is served in a comfortable room and it is a wonderful start in the day. Even for people with allergy against special type of foods it is not a problem. The family who run the hotel are always present themselves and they give guests a nice smile and are glad to assist. Compared to other hotels in the area, Mandalay offers a very good service with fair prices. Everything is nearby and the Paddington area with the tube, busses and the direct connection with Heathrow makes it easy to plan the day. At the end of the day, it is nice to go back to the hotel, where the friendly family await the guests with a smile. The rooms are always made up nicely by the staff and makes one feel comfortable in the night. Also the Mandalay Restaurant with excellent and authentic Burmese cuisine is nearby and belongs to the same family. I can warmly recomend this hotel to other guests. Out of five stars I rate Mandalay with 5 stars!!!
