“Wonderful stay at a top-notch service-oriented boutique hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013

Our first encounter with the staff set the tone for our four-day stay. We arrived at 10am, two hours before check-in. We wanted to drop off our luggage so that we could tour London before our check-in time. The manager offered and insisted that we not only do that, but also that we have a full hot breakfast! Imagine having a meal before even checking in! We were so surprised and appreciative. And breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, hot and cold cereals, baked goods, eggs and sausage and bacon, and plenty of tea and other breakfast beverages. So we were all set to get on with our shopping and sightseeing.

The location is great but the street seems to be in transition. It was loud at night. The room was lovely -- very bright, comfortable, and clean. The staff accommodated our request to configure the king bed into two twins for my mother and me. Even with that set-up and a cot for my daughter, we had plenty of space in the room.

Whatever request we had, it was attended to ASAP. All the staff wanted to do was make us happy and provide outstanding customer service. One example: My mother needed to mail a package within England and wanted to know where to find a post office. The front desk clerk did one better: she took the package and said she would get it mailed. There was no charge to my mom. I can't imagine any other hotel accommodating us like that!

Another benefit was having A/C in the room. Even though it was not that hot when we were there, it would certainly come in handy for travelers in July and August.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street are noisy. Stay in one facing the back.

Staying at this hotel is a wonderful experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful, breakfast is delicious and WIFI free - it is also very fast. The location of this Hotel is fantastic, very close to Marble Arch, Oxford Street, lots of restaurants and pubs.

One problem I had was that there was nowhere to store my clothes. There was a wardrobe in my room however most of my travelling clothes need a drawer not hanging space. A chest of drawers would be great. The room was quite large enough to cater for this.

I would definitely stay at The Sumner again.

Room Tip: I dont think it matters, there are 2 elevators to take you to which ever floor your room is located...

By far the best hotel we've been in our 2 week's vacation in U.K. Good location, clean, helpful staff and comfortable room. I do recommend it !! As a plus, there are some excellent restaurants in the neighborhood.

On a recent holiday to Europe we had the pleasure of staying at the Sumner Hotel on four occasions. Each visit was trouble free and most enjoyable. The staff in all areas of the hotel are pleasant, welcoming and efficient. We never had to ask more than once to have something done or provided. No request seems to present a problem to them.
The breakfasts were consistently of a high standard and plentiful, and provided us with a good selection.
We stayed in a variety of room types but found all to be comfortable. The standard Queen room (208) was of average size for a London hotel but it was quiet and functional. Our second room (109) was a larger King room on the top floor. It faced the street but sound proof windows ensured a good night's sleep.
On our third visit we had a lower ground King room (200) which was real surprise. It was extremely large with two large windows facing the street so it was surprisingly bright and welcoming for a basement room. The flower boxes of geraniums in the windows were a pleasure to wake up to and created a very homely feel. There was no concerns about street noise as again the windows were well sound proofed. As I love to sleep with fresh air I was able to open the windows during the night when the street noise had ended. I appreciate the ability to choose air conditioning or fresh air.
On our last visit we had another great room on the ground floor(101). This king size deluxe room was very modern in its decor and again quiet, well sound proofed and pleasant. It has a great overhead power shower in a large shower recess.
The Sumner feels like a home. The pots of tea so freely offered and served in ones room or in the lounge added to the sense of being at home. We will be staying there again on our next visit to London.

My friend and I stayed here for two nights on a trip to watch the tennis at Wimbledon. The Sumner is in a quiet street, about a 10 min walk from Marble Arch tube station, which itself is right on Oxford Street, so a fabulous location for shopping. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The room was spotless. Although there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, we were presented with vouchers for tea and coffee, which was delivered to our room. The breakfasts were very good and served in a pleasant breakfast room in the basement. There was no noise on this quiet street, which made for a good night's sleep. My friend and I both said that we would definitely stay there again.

What a lovely, clean, hospitable spot, fantastic location, within walking distance to so much and tube station for further away. We stayed for 5 nights, then away for weekend and back for 3 more nights. Complimentary breakfast was appreciated as well. Great value for the pound!

Room Tip: Rooms on the front do get noise during traffic hour, even with double windows.

We have stayed at the Sumner Hotel each time we have visited London. The staff is always very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They have excellent restaurant recommendations also. The breakfast provides an excellent start to a long day of site seeing. A double decker bus stop is within minutes of the hotel. The rooms are large and comfortable with up-to-date amenities. We would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to London. You can't go wrong with The Sumner.

Room Tip: Room 100, which is in the 'basement', still has windows that face the street. It is a resid...
