Owner description: The Cartoon Museum is a small museum which shows a selection of original cartoon and comic art, and a very small amount of animation, mostly by British artists, from the 1750s to the present day. There are three galleries including one showing a changing temporary exhibition showing about 230 works which are densely hung. Please note the museum is totally self-funded, receiving NO money from government or local government. To enable as many people as possible to visit, reductions are available for students, concessions and it's totally free to under-18s, Art Fund members and Friends of the Museum. We are closed on Mondays but OPen BANK HOLIDAY MONDAYS. Closed over Christmas/New Year.

The entry fee is reasonable but too much focused on British artists and this is specified on the wall as well where you can read the FAQ.
So if your aim and focus is on British artists only this makes of this museum a really niche one.
The collection is small (understandably) but nice...anyway please change name of the museum in "The BRITISH Cartoon Museum"

The entrance fee is quite reasonable, but the museum is small and a little shabby. There are two small floors with cartoons from Victorian times to present, but only 1 or 2 examples of each era. Some classic cartoonists are shown, like Scarfe, Searle and Trog. My 9 year old was more interested in reading the copies of the Beano that had been left out for younger visitors.

We just enjoyed our 3rd visit, this time to see the Dandy Exhibition. My 9 year old felt this alone was worth the hours of travel from Oxford! Nice, small place but if you read everything it could be hours. Great to have the free lockable lockers and hangers for wet coats which make things much more comfortable if wet or carrying heay rucksack all day. With Art Fund membership entry is free. Shop is very good but not suprisingly, not cheap. Take your Beano/Dandy fans!

Have been to the Cartoon Museum many times, it is a small museum only 2 minutes' walk from The British Museum and is well worth finding. The permanent displays are varied and entertaining and the regular round of special exhibitions (and special events, talks, etc) make repeat visits a must. The low entry charge makes this one of the best-value museums in London and I have spent many entertaining hours here, the shop is also very good, with all sorts of cartoon and comic-related books and gifts that you won't find elsewhere.

The entrance is a little hard to find, and the fee for adults is higher than expected. Children got in free though. The cartoons were mixed up, not in clear "Adult" and "Children" section and there were some bad language at points. Upstairs is a place where you could be taught how to draw manga and cartoons, but at the time of our going, there was a private art lesson going on, so that was a little dissapointing. Maybe not for kids as much as adults.
