This upscale hotel in Mayfair is central to Bond Street and its station and, therefore, has easy access to the rest of London. The hotel is situated in a back street off Bond Street, opposite Selfridges Department store. The General Manager greeted us at the door and the doorman, dressed in top hat and tails did not mind having a picture taken with me. He was chatty and kind and the driver of the vintage Daimler that is available to guests,to be dropped off in the local area. We just had to do that and it was great fun!
The room was small but well equipped with a gorgeous bathroom. It was smart and sophisticated as is the hotel, which has an old world, old English feel. The staff is amazing and well versed in hospitality.
The only issue I had at the hotel was that I should have checked on the breakfast included with the room. A continental breakfast, as I know it, has a selection of fruit, pastries and yoghurt etc. This had only some croissants and unhealthy looking muffins. I was not thrilled and said so, so ordered some poached eggs for Pounds 5.00. However, these did not show up on my bill so I was grateful for that. For the price point at this hotel, the cooked English breakfast would have been welcome. It was Pounds 17.00 so I didn't order it. I feel a good hot breakfast sets you up for the day ahead, especially in the cold.
There is a private room for guests called the Cub lounge. There wasn't anyone in there but they offer tea, juice, coffee and scones. Once I found someone to help me all was well and I enjoyed the scones and preserves. Coming back to England I always try to eat all my favorites so that is why this review is heavily focused on food, I guess!!
The staff make this hotel what it is and I thank them for taking care of us and being so genuinely welcoming. We hope to be back soon.
