This upscale hotel in Mayfair is central to Bond Street and its station and, therefore, has easy access to the rest of London. The hotel is situated in a back street off Bond Street, opposite Selfridges Department store. The General Manager greeted us at the door and the doorman, dressed in top hat and tails did not mind having a picture taken with me. He was chatty and kind and the driver of the vintage Daimler that is available to guests,to be dropped off in the local area. We just had to do that and it was great fun!

The room was small but well equipped with a gorgeous bathroom. It was smart and sophisticated as is the hotel, which has an old world, old English feel. The staff is amazing and well versed in hospitality.

The only issue I had at the hotel was that I should have checked on the breakfast included with the room. A continental breakfast, as I know it, has a selection of fruit, pastries and yoghurt etc. This had only some croissants and unhealthy looking muffins. I was not thrilled and said so, so ordered some poached eggs for Pounds 5.00. However, these did not show up on my bill so I was grateful for that. For the price point at this hotel, the cooked English breakfast would have been welcome. It was Pounds 17.00 so I didn't order it. I feel a good hot breakfast sets you up for the day ahead, especially in the cold.

There is a private room for guests called the Cub lounge. There wasn't anyone in there but they offer tea, juice, coffee and scones. Once I found someone to help me all was well and I enjoyed the scones and preserves. Coming back to England I always try to eat all my favorites so that is why this review is heavily focused on food, I guess!!

The staff make this hotel what it is and I thank them for taking care of us and being so genuinely welcoming. We hope to be back soon.

Room tip: I would say that probably all rooms in this hotel are great. Ours did not have a view so if that is offered I would ask for it.

I been lucky enough to have made around 100 trips from Australia to Europe over the last 30 years. I have also been lucky enough to experience some of the world's best hotels (in London think of hotels like Claridges and the Savoy).

But I favour the Beaumont most (I stayed there for about 10 days a few weeks ago). It has the luxury without being too pretentious. Its staff none of whom I could fault provide service with warmth but without artificiality (in some hotels one gets the impression that their staff are unemployed B class actors who are resentful at having been overlooked for some role in a BBC period piece).

I stayed there two years ago just after it first opened - at that time it seemed to have some housekeeping problems. But no more.

My irritations this time were minor (being a lawyer it comes with the occupation).

First the hotel car was absent - no explanation given and no substitute offered.

Second were the room towels. They were far too rough. Next time I visit the hotel (and I will visit again) I think I will have to bring my own towels.

And lastly marmalade. The marmalade served with breakfast was some sweet commercial product more like jam than marmalade.

Given its heritage surely the Beaumont knows that good marmalade must be tart with lots of rind . Perhaps its kitchen could make its own. Its kitchen makes very good chocolate. I sure it could make proper British marmalade if it tried.

Dear Robert R,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a great and detailed review. It was such a pleasure to welcome you back for 10 days. First and foremost, thank you kindly for your kind words about our team and service that is "luxurious" without being "pretentious". It is something very important to us.

I have also spoken our Executive Housekeeper and Ella was thrilled about your feedback. In the same conversation we also spoke about your comments about our towels. Thank you for mentioning it and please do not feel obliged to bring your own towels! We will certainly buy a different, softer towel for you during your next stay. I have also conveyed your comments about our marmalade to the chef. Christian has taken your feedback on board ... we do like the idea of making our own. Our 1982 Daimler should have been available for you to use, and I am not sure why you could not use this wonderful service. Disappointed to read that you did not receive further explanation.

Thank you again for your kind review and we look forward to welcoming you back on another trip to Europe, hopefully in the near future.

Sincerely,

Jannes

Location is great here and the service is upscale and the employees are caring. However the standard room is quite tiny my husband and I felt like we were trapped in our closet full of clothes back Home. Overall not terrible experience and if price drops will go back

Dear wandah5015,

Thank you very much for your review and for taking the time to write it.

So pleased to read that our found the service "upscale" and our team "caring". Thank you! I am, however, sorry that you felt that our standard rooms were too small. When we build the hotel we actually wanted to create one of London's largest standard rooms with over 30sqm / 322 sf. All rooms feature large wardrobe spaces for London standards (at least too full length wardrobes, five spacious drawers and two large additional compartments). All room also have a full length mirror. Having that said, I am disappointed that your room did not meet your expectations and would be delighted to personally assist you with any upcoming reservations here at The Beaumont.

I hope we have the pleasure to welcome you back in the future and send you our best wishes.

Sincerely,

Jannes
