Holiday Inn London - Elstree
Ranked #641 of 1,076 Hotels in London
Reviewed August 17, 2008

We stayed here for 1 night, and chose the hotel for it's convenient location. It was very easy to find with easy access from the motorways.
We've stayed at lots of Holiday Inns, and this is one of the larger ones. On arrival we noticed there was a wedding in progress, and asked for a quiet room away from any noise. The reception staff were very helpful and gave us a 2nd floor room at the back.
The room was a bit tired - curtains hanging off a few hooks, wallpaper a bit tatty round the edges, and wobbly, crooked lights. The bathroom needed a really good clean, with dirty grouting round the bath. Also one easy chair between 2 was a bit mean!
We had dinner as part of our deal, and the entire meal was a self-service buffet (possibly because staff were tied up with the wedding). It was OK, but a bit congealed from sitting in the heated trays.
Breakfast was the usual buffet, with a good selection, but the bacon, eggs and beans were luke warm, eve though we were fairly early.
The hotel was adequate, and we had a quiet, comfortable night's sleep. I just felt it needed modernising - replacing the heavy wooden furniture and redecorating, and recurtaining the rooms.

We booked this hotel for a two night break. As Priority Club members we had earned enough points for one of the nights to be a freebie. We had asked for a large room with a cot upon booking.

The hotel foyer and bar area was airy, spacious, clean and modern. On the way to our first floor room we noticed the corridor carpets were frayed and worn in places.

In short, the room was not what we asked for. It was small to the point of being poky. It was gloomy. It looked out onto the hotel rooftops. The cot wasn’t present. Indeed, without actually removing furniture, a cot would not have fitted in.

We complained immediately and were told that the hotel was full and we could not be moved to a larger room. Whilst the staff were apologetic, we didn’t feel we received the same level of service that we have enjoyed at other Holiday Inns. We certainly did not get any ‘Priority Club’ treatment.

So we cancelled our stay on the spot. Fortunately, the St Michael’s Manor hotel in St Albans accepted our booking at short notice for that night. When we arrived there 30 minutes later, our (large and beautiful) room was ready with a cot in situ with requested blankets/pillows for our toddler – excellent service at such short notice.

So, Holiday Inn Borehamwood – you let down one of your regular clients in a big way!

Only stayed for a single night, but was impressed with the cleanliness, helpfulness of the staff, comfort, general look of the hotel, and easy access from the M25. The Breakfast was adequate, though not the best I have had, but the beds were extremely comfortable, and the room and bathroom facilities were very clean and had everything available that we could need. Even the maid staff were helpful and friendly. Unfortunately we didnt have time to try the pool, but we had a look, and saw a young family enjoying it. Hot drinks in the lounge were a little pricey, but I guess this is to be expected in a large hotel on the edge of London. I would definitely reccommend this hotel.

Rooms clean etc.

Resteraunt food is, at best average, but very expensive.

My bill for an evening meal came to over £70.00, and when I approached the Manager to discuss what was, in my opinion, an exhorbidant price for what I had eaten,he was not interested, stating its a 4 star hotel you expect to pay high prices. His attitude boarderd on the arrogant.

We have stayed at this hotel twice now. My husbands company hold their annual company party here, and we stay overnight.

The rooms are large and have on both occasions been very clean. The same goes for the bathrooms. The towels are always good, and the bath sheets large.

The beds are comfortable, and extra pillows are available, in the wardrobes.

Can't comment on the menus, as we only have experience of event catering. We have no complaints about that. It's been well cooked and hot and nicely served and presented by efficient and pleasant staff.

We have had the buffet breakfast on both stays and would highly recommend it. The selection is wide, cereals, fresh fruit and a good selection of juices. The cooked selection is also very good and is kept fresh looking. No dried out bacon or solid baked beans when we've been there. The waiting staff at breakfast have always been very efficient and polite too.

We have no complaints at all, and wouldn't think twice about staying here for any occasion.

Stayed in this hotel May 2008. With exception of the bar area this hotel hasn't been updated since the 80's. The rooms are tired and dirty and not what I would expect from a Holiday Inn.

The hotels bar food was appauling making McDonald's seem like fine dining.

Give this place a wide berth and if you are looking for a Holiday Inn I'd recommend Brent Cross or any Holiday Inn Express over this hotel.

This hotel is well located. The room was ok, if a little small. The in room menu is very limited however, the food was ok and was warm when it arrived 20 mins later. I did not go to breakfast however, the business lunch was alright.

If I was paying I would find somewhere else.
