“Winter wonderland in London”

Somerset House Ice Rink
Reviewed January 7, 2013

We went to see all the skaters here on our visit to London. A great place to just people watch if you are not into skating. Watching all the children and good and bad skaters was a true up lifting part of Christmas.

Went for New Years Eve skating. If going again would have booked the late skating session, we were waiting around for a while for the fireworks. There is a very good view of the fireworks themselves, and plenty of space on the balcony. Could have done with more drinks and food options....and more seating spaces as well.

It's become a Christmas-time tradition for my daughter and I to ice skate at Somerset House, open air, rink - we've always enjoyed ourselves. The rink always looks so lovely (especially when it gets dark) - a large, well decorated tree at one end, coloured lights illuminating the ice and framed on all sides by Somerset House itself -a very attractive building. Music plays to add to the atmosphere.
The rink itself is a good size and there is a separate learner area for small children complete with 'pushalong penguins' to help give small folk steady support and confidence.
The event always seems well organised. Skating sessions last for one hour (not including time taken to change into or out of skates). It's a popular venue - we booked online in advance.
There is a bag storage facility ( £1 for 2 items I believe), a rink side cafe and plenty of toilets (down the steps behind the rear of the rink).
We look forward to returning in 2013.
