we stayed at the Black lion during christmas and the new year, it was lovely and within a short walk from maida vale where my son lives. we had a huge en suite, very clean... We would have loved it more if they had rooms on the ground floor as i cant stand the stairs... would recommend it..

The blurb on the website led us to believe we were to be staying in a well run gastro pub, with a lovely breakfast thrown in. In fact we had cheap muffins from the 7-11, white sliced bread, processed ham and cheese. Everything was cheap, the room was noisy and stuffy. Never again - it wasn't good value for money.

I stayed at the Black Lion for one week while on a course in London and really enjoyed my stay. The staff were very welcoming. I loved that when I got back in the evening that I could get a very decent meal in the pub and a glass of wine. I eat there five nights out of seven. I paid £33 per night for my single room and thought that this was very good value. The room was very clean, had modern furniture and neutral decoration. Breakfast was very simple: tea/coffee, bread, cheese, ham, fruit, ceral, yogurt, muffins etc But for £33 if breakfast was not included I would have still thought that my stay was extremely good value.

My Partner and I recently stayed at the Black Lion Guest House so we could be near a friend living in Kilburn. I have been to London many times and lived in the UK for over a a year. The guest house is on the first and second floors above a beautiful old pub on the Kilburn High Road about 10mins walk to the Kilburn tube (Silver line - Zone 2). Brondesbury rail station is also close-by which is handy for Hampstead etc.The high road is always busy so we didn't feel unsafe walking back to the hotel even late at night. The rooms are set behind the pub a bit so the noise is not too bad - ask for a room on the third floor to cut down on the noise. We really didn't hear much noise at all although we supposedly had the quietest room in the place but note that some of the "noisier" rooms seemed larger (as always ear-plugs are an indispensable travel accessory). From memory there was no aircon but despite it being August, the weather in London was mild so it wasn't an issue. However, if it was very hot this could be a problem - double check with the hotel on this one. The staff are really friendly and the rooms are very clean. Breakfast is a relatively simple affair that is self-serve and taken on a tray into your room. There are tea and coffee making facilities in your room. There is a good choice of restaurants/pubs close by, internet cafes, and a theatre directly opposite. We liked the area and far preferred it to staying in central London surrounded by tourists. The local restaurants also seemed quite a bit cheaper compared with those in central London. It was around 50 pounds for a double with bath incl. breakfast which we thought was very good value. We had a few beers and a meal in the pub which we also highly recommend - despite the fact we had to suffer the taunts of the locals as the Aussi cricketers steadily fell from grace.
