I stayed here midweek on business. Over the years this has become my default hotel choice in London quite simply because it is just so good and this stay was no different.

The front desk staff are fantastic; professional, friendly, personal and welcoming but without being obsequious. From the moment you sit down at the check-in desk, you feel like a valued guest.

The suites are huge, particularly by central London standards. A one bedroom suite is something like 65m2 which is massive and the layout of the rooms plus the floor to ceiling windows make it seem even bigger. As a consequence, the rooms feel open and airy. The suite contained modern furnishings and was very well-equipped; the TVs in both living room and bedroom have been replaced with a new in-room entertainment system that now includes all the Freeview channels as well as an easy-to-use electronic programme guide. There is also an entertainment station that has both a DAB and an iPod docking station.

The bed was comfortable - just the right balance between firm and soft - with huge, supportive pillows; both aid a good night's sleep. The bathrooms are enormous - larger in fact that many hotel rooms. There is a bath and separate walk-in shower, with both fixed and hand-held shower heads. There is a good range of toiletries and towels.

What really makes this place stand out though is the quality of the customer service. As an example, housekeeping must have come to offer the turndown service when I was down at dinner in the restaurant (reviewed separately on here); not only did they provide the turndown service, with the little box of chocolates on the pillow, but also refreshed the toiletries in the bathroom as I had opened a couple of the small bottles and also put a bottle of mineral water next to the bed, with a glass. They didn't take one of the two bottles from the dining table but rather added another one.

Another example of the consistent attention to detail is the capsules for the Nespresso machine. These machines are standard across most Carlson Rezidor brands' business class rooms and one of my benchmarks for the attention to detail is how many & which capsules are presented next the machine (gee, I think I need to get out more). A recent Radisson Blu had something like a dozen capsules - how much coffee do you think I can drink?! - but they were all the same flavour. Park Plaza Leeds a few weeks ago had 6 of one flavour and then 1 each of two others - a bit random. Plaza on the River has 6 capsules; 3 pairs of 2 different flavours - a strong, a middle and a decaf. The same, every time.

On the downside, whilst the lighting in the rooms is very good, many of the bulbs are incandescent - these don't have brilliant sustainability credentials. I've seen other Carlson Rezidor properties (particularly Radisson Blu) using near all LED and low energy lighting in rooms. The only other issue was that the work chair at the desk is on castors and on a wood floor, this can mean you roll about a bit every time you move your body. Some kind of brake on the castor(s) or even putting a small rug in front of the desk would fix it. It's nothing major but rather an observation based upon spending time working at the desk when in the living room.

My bill was £420, of which £360 was the room. For central London and in the tourist season, that's not bad at all - particularly as when I was looking online to book, lesser hotels in central London were £450 and above. When you factor in the high levels of service delivery and the feeling of complete relaxation you get when you stay here, it is great value for money.

I've talked about the relaxation factor in previous reviews and I still can't put my finger on it exactly but within a short space of arriving in the room, you feel relaxed and like you can unwind. One night always feels like you've stayed longer. It is perhaps a cliché but it does always feel like being at home.

This hotel delivers an exceptional guest experience on a consistent basis. Time & time again I come here and time & time again my expectations are not only met but exceeded (which is noteworthy as I am one of the Concierge level members of its loyalty scheme, so have high expectations to start with).

I've nearly managed to complete a whole review without mentioning the view and the balcony. Damn. Oh well, have a look at both the professional and guest photographs as the view alone is stunning and being able to sit out on a balcony and enjoy it is a wonderful pleasure. The rooms with a view cost extra and the balconies extra again but in the dozens of times that I have stayed here, they are always worth paying the extra for without a doubt.

I stayed here in a one bed apartment with my partner during Gay Pride weekend end of June. We got a fine river view facing Westminster. Everything is pleasing about this hotel right from the minute you step into the stylish lobby (which is shared with the adjacent Plark Plaza). The reception area has a luxurious ambiance and the staff are always friendly and helpful (this was our third stay). Even the corridors of the accommodation floors have a lovely fragrance (I wish I'd asked what air freshener they use!)

The apartments are spotlessly clean and cleverly designed to maximise space giving you a generous amount of room in each area without stinting on wardrobe space or other facilities (the kitchens have every appliance you could possibly need).

The beds are very comfy and we could hear no noise from the road or from the corridor so got some good nights' sleep.

The location is ideal if you wish to be close to the West End without feeling hemmed in by other buildings. The river gives you a sense of space and it is a pleasant ten minute walk along the riverside towards the London Eye etc with a lovely view of Parliament across the water. There's a convenience store right next to the hotel (and an allnight garage in the other direction) plus a charming cafe perched over the jetty just next to Lambeth Bridge (2 minutes walk). Having said that the hotel's room service, bar and restaurant provide you with everything you might need catering-wise and are good value.

Will definitely come again.

Had an amassing weekend stay. Great view of the River, great location and the room was just fantastic a home from home. What takes it over the edge though is the service from the team that run the hotel.
The front desk team helped to sort everything out for a surprise champagne dinner which went beautifully. Nothing was too much. And the room service food was great and very quick and a true Service with a smile. Will definetly be visiting again on my next visit to London.

When booking thru Travelocity, I had specifically indicated higher floor and a view to the Thames and Houses of Parliament. I got none of those when checking in since "not available". Then why bother requesting those online ? Conclusion: Do not count on that view when booking while it seems to be one of its strongest selling points upon reading other travellers' reviews and from hotel website pictures.

As a compensation for insisting on that view (?), got upgraded from a studio to a one bedroom suite (that seems to be non uncommon from other reviews). Extremely well appointed, modern & large with hardwood floors throughout and modernly furnished. Extremely comfortable and while quite pricey, you do get quite a bit for your money on condition you get upgraded which is not guaranteed either I suppose. Especially with upcoming busier high season.

Make sure you do make good use of Vauxhall tube or bus station - a 10 minutes tops walk from the hotel. Bus 88 from Trafalgar Square gets you to Vauxhall. Buses a lot more enjoyable since you get to enjoy views along your trip, especially line 15 that zooms along some of the major tourist spots from City towards Westminster.

While in London, enjoyed a lot the Thames cruise to Greenwhich on a picture perfect day. The other highlight being a day tour to Stonehenge, Bath, Cottswolds and Stratford - extremely busy, but quite interesting with Premium Tours. Weatherwise, got surprised about how cold and windy end of April evenings are while during the day weather had been very much on the nice side and not a single drop of rain during the 6 day stay.

Best gastronomic experience while in Londen - "Signor Sassi" italian restaurant in Knightsbridge close to Harrod's. A truly memorable dinner, do not miss it, everything is absolutely brilliant.

As a conclusion, staying at Plaza on the River had been a good experience overall, only negative being dissapointment with not getting the much advertised view.

The location of the hotel is superb for heading into the city and we ventured to Royal Ascot from Waterloo which in a cab was about 10 mins to the station from the hotel. The staff at the hotel are really helpful we never saw the room cleaning staff but they did a fantastic job replenishing all kitchen items that were needed .im looming forward to returning to the hotel in December
