My sister and I have recently returned from a visit to London where we stayed at the Glenlyn Guest House in North Finchley for five nights. This wasn't our first visit to London and we thought on this occasion that we wouldn't stay in central London, but see a bit more of the surronding areas. The staff at Glenlyn was polite, friendly, and very helpful and we loved the old charm of the place. It was wonderful to start each morning with a healthy full breakfast that offered a selection to satisfy a variety of tastes and the proximity to shops and restaurants was very convenient for meals or for picking up other necessities. True, the tube ride was longer to get to the theatre or other tour departure points, but we both thought it was nice to explore a part of London that we otherwise may have never seen. We would definitely stay here again.

The Hotel is really far away from the London´s downtown. It is about one hour travelling by tub. The reception staff are not freindly. The bed and the pillows are soft and clean. The breakfast was ok. When we arrive there was a problem in the shower of the bath which was reported and they fixed the same day. The hotel has not been recently remodeled and the celing and the wall of the bath has mold. The morning we were leaving they turn off the heat and I caught the flug. Whe make a taxi reservation to go to the airport through the hotel and they told us the service cab was going to cost us 30 pound, then, in the airport, the cab driver charge us 38 pounds. We found that an abuse.

This hotel was a real find. It is a half an hour Tube ride from central London in a lovely middle class neighborhood. We stayed in Apt. 1 (Fairlawn) which was actually an apartment. Full modern kitchen, sunken family room, and our own backyard. It even had a camera security system so you could see who was at the door. The big plus: a little washer/dryer unit in the apartment. We were able to do our laundry before we left.

They offer a full hot English breakfast. We stayed for six nights and the breakfast was always the same. However, the selection is so varied that you can switch out choices so that it doesn't become boring. The hotel is also very close to a commercial area with some good restaurants.

Is there a disadvantage to this hotel? Only one. From the train station, you have to climb a long hill to get to the hotel. Unfortunately, that means a hill climb at the end of a busy day. There is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill (to the right as you leave the train station) and the driver is happy to haul you up that hill, but it doesn't run on Sundays and you usually have to wait a few minutes for it.

The staff is friendly and accommodating. We absolutely recommend this hotel and really enjoyed our stay there. Every evening, it felt like coming home.

Room Tip: It took us a day to figure out the shower. The horizontal tube has knobs on both ends. The one on...

From the moment we arrived we felt at home and ideal for extended stay. Great staff and if Paul's still there you wont have a care. The room was great and the dining conservatory most relaxing. Train and shopping close at hand and if you get the chance make the acquaintance of the fellow at the newspaper shop in the main street he is a great guy. And full of help for lost souls... AND yes we would go back and hope we will one day

Room Tip: As grey nomads we asked for and got a room without too many stairs.

A very friendly hotel, free parking, few minutes walk to tube, round the corner from shops, bars and eateries! Stayed here in March 2012 for two nights. Didn't want to drive into the city and pay extortionate parking fees, so this was a very good compromise. If you whinge about furniture being a little old and tired, then don't stay here! Fantastic breakfast.
