“Good position and very clean”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

This is the best hotel I ever stayed in London.

The hotel is very good located, just around the corner of the Aldgate East underground station and 5 minutes walk from the Liverpool Street train/underground station.
Close to the hotel there are bars, pubs and mini markets.

The room was silent and very clean, as the hotel's common areas.
The bathroom was in yacht-style with a wide shower and the wardrobe was just sized for two persons.

There is also a wi-fi connection (not free) and a pay-tv, but i did not used it.

The quality/price ratio is very good but I think that at least some 1 or 2 hour/day of wi-fi connection should be considered...

We stayed at the Ibis London City for two nights for a weekend away in London. It is literally across the road from Aldgate East Tube Station, about a 3 minute walk to Aldgate Tube Station and about 5-7 minute walk from Liverpool Street. Reception was quick and friendly and we were pleasantly surprised by our room. We booked in advance and it was about £83 a night which was not too bad for London. The room was very clean and fairly spacious with room for our overnight bags. The shower was clean and powerful and the room also had a tea/coffee maker. Room also had a small sofa, desk and flat screen tv with quite a few channels. Breakfast was good with a choice of a hot english or pastries, cereal and also juice and tea/coffee. The bar prices were also very reasonable and it had a nice atmosphere. The hotel is also only about 5 minutes from Brick Lane. All in all we were pleased with our stay.

The poeple were friendly and helpful and the location was great - you could walk to London Tower and Petticoat Lane Markets and the Aldgate East Underground was right there. The breakfasts were nice as well - only downside was small room size but hey you donät spend all day there

Good hotel in great location, which doesn't break the budget.

Rooms are clean and comfortable and bar is pleasant for a drink - food is over-priced though.

Staff are friendly and efficient and surrounding area seems to be steadily improving.

Everything you'd expect from an IBIS.... clean, businesslike, no airs and graces. The rooms were clean, no germs daring to step foot into the sterile, self contained plastic bathroom. The bed was comfy, the reception efficient., the bar probably passable once everywhere else had closed..

At £100 this would have just about been acceptable. At £185 it's a complete rip-off, but as it was the only place local to Aldgate with rooms left, then £185 it was.

Was it clean, bright and comfortable? Yes. Will I stop there again out of choice? Not at that price..

The location was great, the hotel itself was fine really - nothing special and don't agree with paying £1000 for 3 rooms for two nights but the worst part had to be the food and staff. I wasn't able to get into my room without having to have security there for the whole stay. I visited reception 6 times because of this and each time was looked at like I was the crazy one who couldn't use a key. To then have security try the key again and actually look surprised when it didn't work was beyond insulting. When I asked for another room I was completely ignored.

On the food side, it took 2 hours to have 2 courses, we waited over 30 minutes to get drinks and be able to order food and when it did arrive it was horrible. To be fair one of my friends did eat their meal but to be kind to him he normally eats anything and was so hungry by the time it arrived he would have eaten cardboard. I had the burger which was covered in grease, it also did look like a frozen burger.

I had a bad experience with Ibis hotels years ago and stayed away for a while, I won't be making the same mistake of going back again. When comparing to Premier Inn's the staff are fantastic, the rooms are much more comfortable and they always tie themselves with decent food establishments (althought I never thought I would say that about the beefeaters!!)
