Went in after a meeting a few doors away and had a very good coffee eclair and good coffee. I saw the croissants and they looked perfect but didn't want to be disappointed, so that's why I chose the coffee eclair.

But as I left to go home, I figured that if the croissants looked good and the eclair was actually good, then they might be worth a try. Luckily, I was working the next day in a place just 10 minutes walk away, so I decided to go there early evening before going home. The croissant was perfect, especially when dipped in the very good coffee - the synergy of the two that can never be achieved when either are sub-standard. The croissant had the right texture, lightness and level of flakiness - not like a cake and not so flaky that it disintegrates. Just a plain croissant with a subtle buttery flavour - not pompously named as a croissant au beurre (as in France where they charge more for the usually inferior buttery-to-greasy version than their plainer ones).

Yes, this was the combination of flavours that had such a great impact on me on my first trip to see my French grandmother in France at the age of seven and then again at various times after that - mostly in France and sometimes in northern Spain. Sadly, it's not easy to find good croissants or good coffee in France, Spain or Italy these days - and it's extremely rare to find a place anywhere that does both good croissants and good coffee.

So, have already planned to leave early for another work event where I need to change from the bus to the tube at Kings Cross so that I can have excellent croissants and coffee again soon.

By the way - it's Gray's, not Gary's, Inn Road!

Really nice old fashion bakery, where you can actually see the bakers making delicious croissants.
The coffee is also really good, and the personnel is very friendly.
It totally worth he little walk from London King's Cross.
