“Getting run down but soon to be renovated - still value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2009

This is a goodt place for a mum and daughter relax and bonding sessions and I noticed 2 couples doing exactly that. Things are starting to stop working probably due to the complete restoration scheduled. I beleive they have a grant from English Heritage to start this work. A morning slot costs £8 and is ladies only on Monday and Weds - perhaps other days. They do run a few mixed sessions but predominently single sex so you can wear as much as you feel comfortable with. The helpful local attendant looks out for new people and lets you know which lockers do and dont lock and about the extras and amenities available. For example a 30 min scrub is £8 and a deluxe is £12 - this involves salt or sugar. You can also book a massage. There are refreshments and basic food available all reasonably priced. The locals who use the place frequently are full of hints and tips from using pure advocado as a cream to use of lofah mits to insure you dont put back the soap you took off. Very hot steam room apparently the guys like it hotter. Fits 4 and 6 at a squeeze. The sauna contains 3 warm and hotter rooms. Great deco tiles but a bit grubby. You may recongnise this place as the place where the villains in Ashes to Ashes discuss their business clad only in towel. Lots of filming goes on here.

There are beds to lie on after and a very cold water fountain. There is also an icy plunge pool. The costs of a session includes a swim unfortunately when I was there the large pool is roped in half allowing only a swim in the slow lane. This because the other half is used for schools. Good exercise nether the less.
I still think this is great value for money (stayed for 3 hours) and beleive this was ranked one of the top 5 spas in London. Came away feeling wonderful.

“steam rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2006

a day cleaning the body . i look forward to a tueday or thursday morning, when i can use the steam / hot rooms at ironmonger row .
a £7.20 well spent . ( arrive before 12.00 ) goes up to £12 .00 after midday.
on arrivel in the change area . time to undress , leave my clothers and cares behind in the locker . ( £1.00 coin required , which you get back evertime you open the locker ) now i wander naked in to the steam room with my bottle of cold water , just sit there along with the other naked gents with out a care in the world . after 10 minutes i then take a cold shower before re entering the steam room . after couple more showers and hot steams , i then make my way to 1 of the 3 hot rooms and lie down and relax . after about 10 minutes i venture in to the next hot room for about 15 minutes . back out for quick shower and dip in the cold plungre pool . them back in to the hot rooms . you get all types of gentlemen there . from the shy young lads that walk around with swim wear on, to the good old east london fellows that use the steam rooms week in and week out , dont care about walking about naked .
after about 2 hours in and out the steam / hot rooms i then take up the chance of a massage from a fellow steam room use . where i lie on one of the mable slabs and let then work there magic on my back for about 40 minutes . wicked . then back in to the hot room for about another 30 minutes before showering getting dress and leaving totley clean and relax .
my advice to any one who never been to a steam room , if you age 18 to 80 ,(shy about your body or not ) you will enjoy it and will not feel out of place there . get down there , strip off and just relax . if shy , walk about with a towel wrap round you for the first 10 minutes . after that time you will end up just sitting on the towel and you will not notice that you are naked and no one will bother you .
it the best way to relax get relly clean and £7.20 well spent . tuesday or thursday morning any time between 9 and 12. 00 as the price goes up after midday . why i do not know .

13 Thank robrt
