“Best outside swim for miles!”
Review of Brockwell Lido

Brockwell Lido
Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

I have been swimming here since 1993. A classic old 30's lido with a major refurb under its belt.
Obviously on a late summer afternoon with the sun setting it is a joy to swim here - especially on a weekday out of school holiday. Also don't miss winter swim three days a week in the cold water!! Coffe afterwards in chaotic lido cafe

So, we (five year old, friend and friend's child) went because Sixteen Feet productions were putting on Wind in the Willows in the walled garden, but came away thinking of the park and lido as great attractions of themselves. The lido is very well maintained with an excellent café (highly rated, healthy meals, friendly service). It was lively but not crowded. The adjacent park has one of the best playgrounds I've experienced - lots of creative wooden amusements, climbing frames/walls, slides etc... no plastic :) We spent about three hours here but could easily have stayed all day. It's changed my antiquated impressions of lidos :)

Had breakfast everyday of a trip from 4 to 7th AUgust 2012. Best granola, compote & yogurt ever. Asked could I buy some to bring back to NI as so good!Eggs benedict better than the Woolsey in central London. Freshly squeezed juice, good coffee & sour dough bread standard as toast - what else could you want! Staff really helpful and friendly! Lido won't disappoint if you go. Hoping they will have enough granola for my friend to bring home for me next time they are approached!!

Went on a typically british rainy summer afternoon. The water was cold - but once you got in it was heaven. The pool is clean, and there's plenty of room to swim lanes or just to enjoy a casual swim. It looked like there was lots of room to sit around the edge and sunbathe - but as we barely saw the sun, we were able to take advantage of that.

Locals refer to Brockwell Lido as "Brixton Beach", and on a hot summers day it is a fantastic place to wile away an afternoon with friends. The swimming pool is clean and spacious and there is ample space to sunbathe around the sides. It can get very crowded when the mercury rises, so my advice is to arrive early to secure yourself a good spot.
