Owner description: Owned and operated by Ambassdor Theatre Group (ATG) the Phoenix was designed by Giles Gilbert Scott and Bertie Crewe. It opened in 1930 with the premiere of Noel Coward's Private Lives starring the author, Gertrude Lawrence and Laurence Olivier. Many star actors have appeared at the theatre including Maggie Smith, Diana Rigg, John Gielgud, Dustin Hoffman, Derek Jacobi, Kenneth Branagh and Stephen Fry. More recently the theatre has presented a number of successful musicals including, between 1991 and 2012, Willy Russell's Blood Brothers which became the theatre's longest-running show and was seen by over 5 million people. The theatre is now home to the award-winning Broadway musical Once.

Enjoyed the show, cast were great. Disappointed in the sound, we where in B row upstairs and found that we missed some of the dialogue ,audience downstairs would laugh and upstairs people didn't, as we had missed what was said. Also it was really cold, they say heat rises, not here. It did distract us from the show, as we kept having to keep moving to keep warm.First time I have ever had to keep my heavy coat on in a theatre and even then still cold. Mentioned it on leaving and also emailed but not heard back from anyone.

We hadn't realized when we booked to see "Once" on Saturday 16th March that it was, in fact, the opening night, the show having come across from Broadway. It was brilliantly slick, funny and with some really poignant moments. We were captivated from beginning to end. The three standing ovations were well-deserved. The sign of a good show is when you leave the theatre feeling buoyant and uplifted. Which we most certainly did.

Another piece of musical history was made tonight at the opening preview of the stage version of Once - an Irish love story, and I was there. Never have I seen first night audience rise to its feet simultaneously so fast as the last chord of the final song faded away.

This is ensemble musical theatre at its very finest and the cast are uniformly superb. A reprise of "Falling slowly" - the show's most well-known and exquisitely beautiful ballad ends the show and "Gold" which bring the first half to a close is another showstopper.

This show will run for years and though it may not beat the record of its famous predecessor "Blood Brothers" which filled the Phoenix for decades, I confidently predict it will have as good a chance at doing so as any other show in town currently.

Flavia and Vincent and indeed the entire cast produced the most amazing show. The time flew by and we would love to see it again!
The skill and stamina of the dancers is unbelievable, mesmerising!

Lovely theatre with very comfy seating and great views. Asounding & Amazing Tango show tonight, wish I could go again! Boy can Flavia & Vince dance, it's no wonder that they were world champions. Altough all the dancers are great these two just outshine the rest. Sooo worth seeing, love, love, loved it! Added bonus was that they walked right past our chosen restaurant window and waved and smiled. Oh and did I say I loved it?!
