Cleopatra’s Needle is on the Victoria Embankment by the Thames. Interestingly, it is not about Cleopatra. In fact, it predates her by about 1,000 years.

Nevertheless, it is a genuine artifact from ancient Egypt, and one of the landmarks along the Thames. As with many of these landmarks, if you know what it looks like, there’s not a lot of point in taking yourself to physically see it, unless you happen to be in the area, or you want to check it off a list of things to see.

It's much old than Queen Cleopatra. Was given to Great Britian in 1819 but not installed on the embankment until 1878. Has two fake sphinxes one on each side. The base of the obelisk and one sphinxe where damaged by a bomb drop by a Zepplin in WW1

I love all things Egyptian, and had completely forgot London had this.
When I did remember I was thinking something like in Washington D.C. Nothing like it, Better I say. The Sphinx are beautiful, just like the lions around at Trafalgar Square. Big and everyone climbs on them, so hard to get a picture without some stranger in it. Amazing, must see

We found the needle walking along Victoria Embankment and were quite surprised by this monument, which appears out of place among modern London.
The plaque attached tells you the damage to the plinth was caused by one of the first air dropped bombs ever, dropped from a German airship in the First World War bomb.
I have been to London on several occasions but this was a pleasant surprise.
