Holiday Inn Express London - Greenwich
Ranked #345 of 1,077 Hotels in London
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 2, 2013 via mobile

Friendly staff, basic rooms, family room is very small and would only suit a family of 3,
Iv stayed in a holiday inn before and the breakfast was great so this one was a massive let down, especially when sight seeing in London,
Amazing location for the 02 Arena!!!
But if you need some where to stay before or after going to O2 this is the best one for you. X

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review following your recent stay with us.
It is very encouraging to read that you enjoyed the perfect location of our hotel as well as friendliness of our staff.
The capacity of our family rooms is 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children (children stay free). But we are always more than happy to offer some adjoining rooms for those who require more space.
Our free breakfast is called ‘Express’ because we only offer three cooked options (sausages, scrambled eggs and beans). I do appreciate that you had a better experience in standard Holiday Inn but please allow me to clarify that we are different than full service brands.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for staying with us and I do hope we will have a pleasure to welcoming you back soon.

Kind regards,

Paulina Poskrobko

Arrived fairly late in the evening, simple bus connection from North Greenwich station then a 5 minute walk - depending which bus you get! Simple, friendly check in, rooms easy to find although you do have to remember to put key in the lift, great security but a bit of a hassle.
Rooms just as booked with sofa bed made, only problem was your head is lower than your feet so had to sleep opposite way round. Breakfast is free, as too the wifi - code given on checkin without asking - great addition by HI Express! Breakfast food was quite ok, it was just a bit of a scramble to get food, a clean table etc etc. Did the job tho so no complaints!

Not a lot you can say about these places, they don't pretend to be other than what they are but then that's what keeps the cost down. So yes, the room was clean and comfortable with a nice big TV and the breakfast food was adequate . Perhaps the biggest plus was the location, about a 20 minute walk to Greenwich or two minutes to the bus stop and with great views from the front side to the O2, the Sky Train and the Millenium Village. One minor gripe was the lifts, only two between so many rooms!
Well it was our third long weekend stay at this place so that can't be bad.

Room Tip: Front side for the view, the higher the better!

It was a pleasant experience in the hotel
Rooms - were quite good, apart from the bad smell i had while entering, although the room service did sprayed fragrance but it still stayed on.
Food - was good
Connectivity - was good as well
But it was a bit costly on the higher side - room rent was 70 GBP / day

Sent email request for earlier check in than 3pm. Arrived about 12:30pm, but was advised room not ready, which was acceptable as no guarantee - so bought a drink from the bar. Our luggage was placed in secure location behind reception. Then at 12:55pm was advised our room was ready. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and professional. Double room with sofa-bed was plenty for a couple, but can appreciate tight on space if needed to use sofa-bed. Room was clean, bed comfortable. Ideal location for O2, which is why we chose it - only 15 min walk. Chinese restaurant located underneath of hotel ideal - would recommend. Breakfast was buffet, mostly continental. Hot food only - toast, sausage (very tasty), scrambled eggs and beans. Shame there was no bacon! Overall, "did what is said on the tin," - ideal location, reasonably priced, clean room and plenty of parking (£7 per day). Would recommend if looking for cheap and cheerful hotel near to London/O2.

Room Tip: View from 613 was to front of the hotel, a bit noisy (traffic), but ok.

I'm a regular visitor to Holiday Inn Express hotels in various parts of the country and pretty much know what to expect. People who complain about the limited breakfast are basically missing the point of the express brand. However although my stay was perfectly fine there were just a few things that mean I have to give this stay a 3 rather than 4 star review, although really it's 3 and a half.

Location wise this is perfect for the O2 and if I were going to a concert I'd book this hotel in a heartbeat. However as I was staying for business in central London there was a 15 minute walk (at least) to North Greenwich tube station on top of a 25 minute journey to central London. I like a walk but that's in a long way if it's raining. I do believe there are buses from the tube to nearby and if the weather was worse I might have investigated further.

I was allocated an accessible room for reasons I can only assume were to do with room availability as I hadn't requested one. This was fine apart from the shower which was more of a wet room with just a curtain to separate from the rest of the bathroom and a somewhat inefficient drain which needed water to be guided towards it with the foot to keep from flooding the place.

Apart from this the usual high standards of the chain were in evidence and I'd certainly consider staying over again for business if the need arose.

Room Tip: If you don't need an accessible room try not to get one

Dear Guest,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your detailed review about your recent stay with us.
I am delighted to read that you enjoyed our complimentary Express breakfast.
As you have mentioned, our hotel is located within a 10-15 minutes walking distance from the North Greenwich tube station. We understand that sometimes it is not very convenient to walk therefore we are always more than happy to arrange taxis. There are also different buses available that our guests use as alternative transport to reach the Underground station. If you decide to return to our hotel, which I do very much hope, please do not hesitate to contact Reception with any queries you may have.
I am very sorry to read about your negative experience with staying in one of our accessible rooms. If you do not wish to stay in this type of room on the next occasion, I would like to suggest that you book a standard double room. You can always contact us before arrival to make sure we have your preferences in our system.
Once again, I would like to thank you for your feedback and I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the hotel soon for a return visit.

Sincere regards,
Paulina Poskrobko

Stayed here when seeing Michael Buble at the O2. The concert was amazing and to be able to walk back to our hotel in minutes was bliss. In fact we were sitting in the hotel bar watching the queues of traffic for ages and thanking our lucky stars that wasn't us. Only negative point was limited bar menu - only crisps and nuts available at night. The hotel staff were very helpful when checking in, as we arrived early so although our room wasn't ready, they stored our luggage so we could head in to the West End to see a show. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice. Room was adequate. There were three of us (myself, my Mum and my teenage daughter) so although it was a squeeze, it meant we were all together. Our flight home wasn't until evening so once again, although we checked out, the hotel staff agreed to store our luggage so we could go shopping. Would definitely stay here again if attending the O2.
