A delightful well stocked traditional and classical bookshop on four or five floors with helpful well informed staff and plenty of knowledge. But, unless you are flush or have no time to wait, who pays full price for books these days? I would dearly have liked to have come away with half a dozen books yesterday but knowing that I could have saved probably 30% or more by buying online and had the delivery by today's post was a real put off. I want Hatchards to continue but their active buying customer base must be unprofitably small. I love browsing here.

Their problem is that the chain of Waterstones is just down the road.
The plus is that when I go in to browse there is plenty that takes my eye and I buy not many book shops where I can do this.
The possible minus is that when I went in to buy a couple of books from the Hairy Bikers (TV cooks) they had every possible cook book except these while down at Waterstones they were in plentiful supply. I can find no rational reason for this.

The shop sits in a lovely historic building in the high end area of central London. It has an excellent selection of books from primeval art to modern economic theories, which are neatly organised where you can search with ease. It's an extraordinary experience and adventure for those who seek knowledge from the wise!

For literary lovers, Hatchards is an amazing place. Several floors of books await the visitor, with all topics covered. From modern fiction and audio books to the classics, it was all there. The store has a rich royal history, and they provide an amazing atmosphere to browse for that gem you have been wanting to read. With the more modern Waterstones just up the road, you cannot fail to find a book to meet your desires here!

If you like Jane Austen, visit Hatchard's to be somewhere she shopped when visiting London. A lovely bookstore with a variety of books and magazines. Enjoy!
