“A must for your kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

Do not miss it if you travel with kids but remember this shop is overpriced :), so prepare for battles with your children or just be generous.

The staff in the shop present various toys (magic tricks, magical pens, flying toys etc) so it is quite entertaining. There is stuff you can play with as well so it is a dream place for the kids of all ages :).

Do try to come in the morning rather than afternoon and not at the weekends. We went there at Friday evening - big mistake! The number of people in the shop was enormous we felt like on the tube during rush hours! It takes away the joy somewhat. The other time we came in the morning and there were no crowds.

“One of the greatest toy stores of all time! (But prices not so great!)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

I've been to Hamleys a few times, the latest in September just browsing really. You cannot deny the store is amazing, the design is great with something interesting everywhere you look. Staff dress up is also great for the kids, and the layout is good. I particularly like the sweet shop on the top floor! However products are over priced a lot and although I have found a few items to be affordable I mainly feel that the toys are not worth the price on them. I realise the shop must need to have a realistic mark up on its products to be able to keep the store as amazing to visit as it is but I'm sure they do not need to be that high, in the current climate can people really afford to spend 30 quid on a small stuffed animal?!

“Busy and overpriced!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012 via mobile

Went yesterday very busy and overpriced toys over 4 levels. The guy who was annoying with the bubble machine nearly got punched as he sprayed me with wet bubbles as I walked in the shop!
Not many branded toys! The staff must be on commission only as they force the toys on you! Kid heaven parent hell

“Massive toy store but will rip you off”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2012

Of course Hamley's is world famous and has so many wonderful toys and games for children of all ages. However the large majority of items are priced way more than other toy shops (e.g. one item we looked at costs £5 in most stores but £8 here, one item cost £22 in most other stores but here was £33!).
It's clear the shop is for tourists and those who think they can proudly say they bought something from Hamleys but once the packaging is off no one will know the difference.
Word of warning (we went at Half Term mind) the shop was packed so you will need to be extra vigilant with your young children and there are often queues for the lifts.

“Magical Time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2012

Went there 20+ years ago as a child and it has not lost the magic. Enthusiastic staff and a mind numbing array of products with realistic prices make it well worth a visit. Only wish my kids had been with me at the time - their faces would have been a picture. Busy but a small price to pay - great store.
