“great guest house for low price”
Reviewed July 15, 2010

stayed at martel guest house with my nefew for 8 days (june/july 2010). the room was very spacious and clean, It had double bed and single bed, aircondition, flat T.V, refrigerator, nice shower.
the breakfast was very tasty. the מeighborhood is very quiet and we did not hear any noise
from other rooms so we had a great sleep at night. The owner, Mr. Martel is very polite and
helpful. the Subway Station (Golders Green) is five minutes walk. There are many restuarants and shops at the main street (golders green road). the nearby park (Golders Park) is a real gem. the price was very reasonable ( 60 B.P per night)

I highly recommend this B&B. The location is great, quiet, residential neighborhood, - we walked to and from the tube station each day, trip into London was fast. Room was comfortable, all amenities, very clean. Breakfast was very good; staff were very friendly and helpful. Plenty of restaurants, banks and shops close by. I would definitely go back next time we visit England.

After enduring the abject misery of the Golders Green Hotel and King Solomon I pitched up at the Martel Guest House in my quest for a decent B&B in Golders Green.

I was met by Phil Martel, an amiable gentleman with a quirky sense of humour, who showed me the two sides of the guest house. There is a proper hotel side where the rooms are more expensive. These are lovely, clean, well laid out rooms and I stopped in these a few times. There is free Wi-Fi as well which is a big plus. The other side is a self-catering unit which is primarily used by contractors working away during the week. There are 6 rooms with 2 fairly basic kitchens and a shared bathroom. The rooms are less well decorated than the hotel, certainly, but are clean and the TV's have freeview. For the £35 a night I paid for a double room it was a bargain. The ability to cook your own food was great. There is a problem with some of the guests smoking in the kitchens and in their rooms however the owner does try to stop it.

When Phil Martel is away his son deals with the business, again a perfectly pleasant chap, and very good to deal with. I found what few problems I had were adequately and quickly resolved.

So Martel guest house offers the best of both worlds. A good hotel or a good self-catering B&B. For me, contracting for 18 months in London, it was great.

We've been here several times before, and since last the Martel Guesthouse has improved. Better breakfast, fresh flowers in our room, better beds, refurbished rooms/bathrooms, and this time Mr. Martel and his staff gave us an even friendlier welcome. Yes- we will come back to this little Pearl of London.

The staff were incredibly welcoming from the outset.
We received a large and spacious room, which was immaculately clean. It had a large screen TV as well as free WiFi Internet access.
The modern-style bathroom was spotless. The shower was a proper shower with a powerful setting on the showerhead.
Continental-style and full English breakfast was a tasty and filling combination. Classical music played in the background accompanied our breakfast dining experience.
Set in the quiet, leafy suburb of Golder's Green, the hotel is a true refuge from the busy hustle and bustle of the City.
We are definitely going to visit Martel Guest house again.

Great location for North West London. This is the heart of Jewish London (although the guest house isn't kosher and doesn't particularly aim for an Orthodox clientèle). Walking distance to Tube and bus hub.

Good size rooms are well appointed, even showing a touch of flair in some of the furnishings. Fridge in the room. Air conditioning (although I didn't need it in April in the UK).

No elevator, so if you are going to be lugging big bags or a wheel chair ask for a ground floor room well in advance (not at the last minute like I did). Free Internet and Phil (the owner) does hire out laptops for GBP2 per day.

(Minor issue: I was in room 5, the one with the weakest wireless signal. My own laptop could not connect. Phil worked hard to improvise a solution for me and after an hour or so came up with one. He promises to have the issue dealt with very soon, but if this is critical for you, ask about it in advance).

Phil and his assistant are genuinely nice people who went out of their way to be helpful.

just stayed for 3 nights at martell guest house with a couple of friends. on arrival we were greeted by phill who was very pleasant and helpful. we had large room on 1st floor with ensuite overlooking the garden, it was clean and comfortable with large tv and fridge. friends allocated ground floor on the front, a bit noisy early morning as guest house had a few contractors in who did not consider the guests when leaving early (5.20am).
Breakfast was ok, 3 different cereals, yoghurt, peeches, bit of cheese, meat, cooked breakfast was very small and we were not really given the choice of what we wanted, it was a spoon of beans, 1 bacon 1 sausage and egg of the day ( scrammbled, poached, omlette microwaved) wasnt the hottest either.
Would recommend going to a show, we went to see sister act at the palladium, excellent.
All in all our stay was comfortable but would have paid a little more for a good breakfast. Would i go again yes.
