Staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The room has a fridge, digital free to air TV, AC, and free high speed wi-fi. Location is perfect as it very quiet, safe and near the tube station. Within walking distance of the centre of Golders Green with a variety of shops and restaurants.

This retired Kansas schoolteacher (doesn't that sound exciting?) recently spent eighteen nights at North London's Martel Guest House.
I'd rank this B&B as excellent without the slightest hesitation.

As many others have commented, the Martel Guest House is kept immaculately clean. The personable and kind housekeeper, "Nely", is a gem. She actually LIKES to clean (I wish that I could say the same!), and she is a very friendly, endearing individual.

The owner/manager, Mr. Martel (whom our group members quietly called "Uncle Phil", though only among ourselves) is a friendly, efficient, helpful, and well-organized soul. I have nothing but praise for the gentleman. If I needed advice about doing my laundry in the neighborhood or arranging a taxi cab, he provided accurate advice "straight away", as the Brits often say. I especially enjoyed Mr. Martel's ("Uncle Phil's") excellent sense of humor as well. His humor was as dry as the Sahara Desert. Most importantly for the guest, though, he cares about running a quality establishment.

Although my own room (No. 4) was small, it was recently redecorated and, as previously mentioned, scrupulously clean. A comfortable bed, a flat-screen TV, a full-sized private bathroom, and plenty of closet and drawer space provided all my necessities for an eighteen-night stay.

The guest house does not skimp on the niceties. There are such things as good-quality, fresh towels daily; excellent bed linens; a top-notch brand of non-watered-down orange juice; daily classical music played at breakfast.

Many others have mentioned the reasonably close proximity to good London transport. It's a two-block walk to a bus stop that features the no. 13 bus (Oxford Street shopping, Trafalgar Square and its museums), the no. 82 bus (past Selfridge's and on to Victoria Station); and the no. 328 (a long route that finally reaches Notting Hill Gate and Kensington High Street). All these routes are quite useful in one's London adventures. For an arthritic gentleman (It is I), the buses provide an easier alternative than the tube. However, I still used the Golders Green tube station and its Northern Line on many occasions. On two days, we temporarily lost group members when those infernal train doors closed very, very quickly. Beware, friends, and make haste!
Devise a plan in case you're separated.

I noticed that one summer correspondent "panned" Mr. Martel's morning breakfasts. He shouldn't have. The breakfast is large, varied, and tasty. These items are available: coffee, tea, chocolate, milk, cereal,
rolls, white or brown bread, chocolate chip or blueberry mini-muffins, sliced turkey, salami, and ham, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers, yogurt and peaches, one or two eggs cooked to order, bacon, sausage, and beans, as well as both orange and grapefruit juice. Frankly, if one can't find something to eat from that list, I have little sympathy for him/her/it. Besides, Mozart or Beethoven are playing, and there are flowers and birds outside the large window. Thou shalt not complain.

Friendly warning, although not connected with the guest house itself: The Golders Green neighborhood is quiet and classy---a pleasant place indeed to live or visit. However, some sidewalks/pavements are very uneven in many places. One needs to take care when walking to and from the tube/bus, especially at night.

If I'd be accepted back, though, I'd sign up in a heartbeat for another eighteen days or so at the Martel Guest House. I found it to be a comfortable and classy place. Moreover, I felt that I received much personal, caring attention as a guest.

Thank you, Mr. Martel and "Nely", for a superb stay.

I stayed for three nights. The place is clean, quiet, everything works well and breakfast is abundant and cooked fresh. Great place, I recommend it.

It is located in the NorthWest of London in a quiet and safe neibourghood, 10 minutes walk from a tube station which connects you with the center of London.

My recent stay at the Martel Guest House was excellent. The room was immaculate with a comfortable bed, nice linens and other features. Mr. Martel serves a great breakfast, cooked to order. Nely, the housekeeper, was quite friendly and helpful. We appreciated that the Guest House was only a short walk to both bus and underground. Location is in a quiet, safe neighborhood. Golders Green offers good restaurants and shopping. I highly recommend the Martel Guest House - a home away from home.

First of all: a very friendly house, situated in a pleasant area only about 15 minutes by tube from St. Pancras, which comes in handy if you arrive by train from the continent (BTW coaches to Stanstead call at Golders Green Station only a few minutes walk from the guest house).
Yes, the rooms are not huge, but mine was large enough for me, the house is clean and well kept. As already mentioned, I especially enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, the very considerate and thoughtful service. Even the WiFi worked like a charm, a rarity in hotels. And not to forget the day begins with a great breakfast.

Room Tip: As this is a quite district, all the rooms will not be noisy.
