Stayed here for three nights on Marriott points, huge room for London, massive walk in shower, beautifully decorated, well located in central area but not noisy. Wonderful in terms of decor but service is somewhat lacking, it could be because they are still new but at this calibre you'd expect they'd be at their best with new well trained staff.

Had breakfast in restaurant one day but we didn't know it was included ( front desk did not tell us ) so we could have eaten there all three days but missed out. Ate at Leon and Petit Dejeuner instead ;(.

In the restaurant when we did visit our service was terrible, we had to beg for coffee and tea multiple times and we ended up finishing our food before actually receiving it! Not a nice way to start the day after a transatlantic trip. Spoke with manager afterwards and he gave excuses of a busy rush instead of an apology, not what I would have expected from a restaurant of that calibre.

Lobby becomes a nightclub-like at night but elevators are posted with security and you can't hear any noise in rooms.

All in all, you can't fault the actual physical hotel but I was glad it was on points because the service issues would have grated much more if I was paying 200-300 pounds a night!

There is an enormous amount to really like about this hotel. We used Marriott points to pay for our room, and were chuffed to get a medium-sized room on the sixth floor (points can sometimes mean a pokey broom-cupboard). The whole conversion of this building has been done to the highest standards, and the rooms have really solid, quality furnishings, from the wood floors and fitted wardrobes, super-comfy beds and pillows, to the excellent bathroom with Grohe fixtures. The black-out blind was a nice touch, and we had a view towards north London across the rooftops. Excellent sound-proofing.

One foible in the room: the light switches are beautiful but completely confusing and hard to use. We couldn't work out how to turn off the bathroom lights, so they stayed on. The wood panelling is also a little oppressive. Rather too 70s, and not in a good way.

The public rooms are incredibly impressive; this was clearly built in the 19th century to make a statement of wealth and importance, particularly the dramatic stucco ceilings and marble floors. It has been converted very sensitively to retain the grandeur with a modern vibe. The Berners Tavern is a fantastic room to behold and worth a visit just to take it in.

We had a light meal from what the maitre d' said was the "reduced menu" as it was in the afternoon. The food was expensive and not great. My prawn sandwich was a rather sickly brioche, and had about six battered prawns in it. Not nice. Good chips though. And the cocktails we had later were very good.

Quick note about the staff. Very friendly - everyone wants to say hello to you, which can be a bit overwhelming for British folk, but we liked it. However, some staff are extremely young and don't have a good grasp of English, which is very frustrating when trying to understand what beers are on offer, for example. I'd be tempted to have fewer staff (there were SO many), and recruit some more native English-speakers.

Room Tip: If you suffer from claustrophobia, a larger room would be worth the extra outlay.

Service was 5 star. Bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever had in a hotel. Food quality was excellent. My only issue is that like many newer hotels there is no place in the bathroom to keep your toiletries.

From the second we arrived I was blown away by the staff in this uber stylish hotel. I was greeted by name at the front door, even though I have never stayed before! Was it my accent or a Google fuelled image search in a morning staff briefing...I don't know, but it was sincere, warm and hugely impressive. I was on business and urgently needed help with a few arrangements and Harry in particular was a superstar...and it's not easy to shine when EVERYONE is excellent!!!! Check-in was equally charming. My room wasn't overly big, but it was very comfortable and didn't detract at all from a first class experience. Can't wait to return.

Fabulous Hotel - Very Stylish & Chic. Location couldn't be better for those wanting a cool central London Location. I never seen so many smart good looking male staff with personality. Exceptional service, friendly and genuine without 'trying' to be cool! Just a great Hotel - What more to say? Oh - and loved the Bed Throw! :)

This was my first edition I've been to of the Marriotts. I was very impressed with the hotel staff. They were very professional, accompanying and knowledgeable about the hotel. We were even given a tour of the private punch room, they let us kick back downstairs in the basement to listen to a House DJ spin, and then was able to sit at Berners Tavern for dessert. This hotel is very chic and swanky, it's definitely an A-list hotel and crowd.

I stayed at the Park Hyatt Place Vedome, Paris, and I felt that this hotel staff may be superior. They were very much like a Ritz hospitality. A great hotel for customers who like to have fun. The rooms were not bad. We had a standard room, and it was very nice and comfortable.

Room Tip: If you don't like your room ask for another one.

We absolutely loved the staff here. Family of 5 (3 late teens - 16, 19, 21). Food was excellent in the dining area. Staff was always smiling and willing to help. Ammendities were great. We have stayed in hotels from Paris, Athens, Rome, San Fran, NY and more...and this was by far our favorite.
