We thought long and hard about where we should go for our anniversary. We wanted great food in an intimate atmosphere. This restaurant ticked these boxes. It isn't cheap but they have to keep a restaurant going with only fourteen covers and the service is impeccable, friendly and never intrusive. The tasting menu was a well balanced meal. A question. Turbot seems to be flavourless. It was rescued here by a fine sauce. This fish was poached in celeriac with fennel and a black quinoa beurre noisette. Could it be that farmed turbot has taken over from wild fish which had more flavour? Charolais beef was braised in tamarin and spices, it was special. We had a soufflé of macadamia nuts, honeymoon melon sorbet and raspberry purée.
They offer matching wine. We settled for a glass of amazing Turkish white and an equally good red from Portugal.
Even without Marianne in the kitchen this was a memorable meal. They even decorated our petit fours plate with the words happy anniversary. Nothing is too much trouble.
