“Afternoon tea booked as a surprise for 50th anniversary gift”

Very well looked after
Lots of choice of sandwiches and cakes
It was nice to be in a small intimate room only 4 tables - appropriate music - quiet side street.

Wonderful afternoon tea. Great selection and more if required. Scones clotted cream and jam served last and out of oven yum. Very friendly guests, all taking discreetly photo's as a feast for ones eyes

We had an afternoon tea in The Capital hotel on Sunday. The selection of tea was really good and impressive. The service was attentive and friendly. Would recommend to a friends. This is a good treat after shopping at Harrods.

“AWFUL, TERRIBLE”
Reviewed August 6, 2010

we went there for afternoon tea and when we went into the hotel. We got the attitude of what the hell are these aliens doing here. (we are not anglo saxons.) We had an unimpressive afternoon tea. We got refills but the wait staff did not tell us about the charges. I expected to be charged but not to the extent that I could have ordered TWO WHOLE SETS OF AFTERNOON TEA!!! When I wrote to complain, the owner basically wrote, we only want the wealthy people coming here. If you need to know the price in advance, we don't want you coming!!!

“Absolute Rip-Off!!”
Reviewed October 20, 2007

I booked afternoon tea for 10 at £14.50 via the Afternoon Tea website. Sent one email to the hotel to confirm which was acknowledged. Sent other emails to confirm final numbers of six and that one of our number will have a baby with her. Got no responses. When we arrived they put us in a private room and charged us £297 for six teas!!. The bill was for 10 and not 6 and they maintained they didn't receive my last 3 emails. The teas were £18.50 and not £14.50 and a bottle of house champagne was £55. Basically, even though we had only traveled a few miles from outside London, they saw us as tourists who they could rip off. Their argument was that I had book a room in a hotel regardless of how many people had turned up. My point was that I had actually booked six teas, not a room in a hotel! Eventually they charged for only six but the whole episode ruined my birthday. I recommend that you stick to established places like The Ritz, Claridges or Fortnums and give people like this a wide birth. Will never return.
