“Fabulous - great food and great staff.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

8 of us piled into Picture on Saturday evening before taking part in the Shine Walk. The service we received was absolutely faultless, even down to one of the staff helping us with our glow sticks! The food was absolutely delicious; the beef I have tasted in a very long time and the chocolate mousse was beyond heaven. I will definitely be back again to sample the delights of the cocktail menu. Many thanks to Tom and the other staff for such a great experience.

“Excellent all round, great food, British take on Tapas.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

Lovely place, from the lovely bar made from old parquet flooring, the polished plaster walls, comfy bar stool/chairs and great service. Only slight niggle is that it is slightly noisy, but a great fun atmosphere. Backed up with very good, simple, but exceptionally cooked food. Poached egg with mushrooms was lovely, as was the ceviche of sea bream, the pressed pork and the blueberry and almond tart! Make sure you all order things and share them Tapas style, great way to eat dinner.

Ignore the bad review, they can't even spell clothes or fed!

Will definitely be going back.

“Favourable newspaper review was spot on”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

Two colleagues and I had lunch at Picture today, having been lured by a recent good review in the Independent newspaper. Two of us are over 50 and definitely un-trendy, but we received a warm welcome nevertheless. Two of us had the set menu--a bargain at £15--and the other the small plates. The beef was *fabulous* and large enough for a mains even though it was allegedly a small plate. Unusual risotto with smoked haddock was delicious too--and the strawberry ice cream the best I've ever had.

“A Mixed Bag”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

Friendly staff.
Slightly sterile interior.
Bread was warm but "spongy" - perhaps it had been microwaved? It was weird and we didn't eat any of it.
More "small plate" type hit or misses....

The Hits:
The lamb bites
The ravioli - but SO small at £7 for three small pieces (we ordered it twice)
The lamb shoulder - meltingly good and of a decent size

The OK:
The Lebanese fried chicken (again, so small we had to order it twice)
The fries - like at Chicken Cottage but very hot, so actually good

The bad:
The salmon - actually tasted fishy, which is frankly inexcusable.

Like I said, the staff were nice, so this experience was pleasant.

If you want "small plates" I would go to Tozi in Victoria or Ottolenghi's in Upper Street, Islington
- both are exponentially superior

“Nice but...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

I am reluctant to criticise Picture, mainly on the grounds that the staff were so nice and friendly and helpful but I can't help but thank I am missing the point a tad here. Especially when the fries arrived half way through the meal. It's all very well being nice, and trendy, and on message but lets sort the basics out first chaps. The 'small plate - multiple choice' food option is the current emporrers new clothes of dining but to me it only serves to racj up the bill and gives lazy / busy chefs a chance to serve different dishes at intervals and so lighten the all round work load. Having said all that the food was well cooked, enjoyed the sea food especially and the building site chic decor fits well in Fitzrovias medai scum heartland. Something missing though - maybe it's a soul?

Tom S, Owner at Picture Fitzrovia, responded to this review, September 23, 2013
Hi There

Thank you for leaving your feedback regarding your recent visit to Picture. I am pleased you found that the food was well cooked, and the staff friendly and helpful.

I apologise that the fries did not arrive at the table when they should have. We try very hard to make sure that dishes are delivered at the correct pace and it appears here that we made a mistake.

I can assure you that the menu design reflects a style of eating that we love, and is not designed to compensate for any laziness in the kitchen! I'm sorry that it appeared otherwise.

I am disappointed that you found the restaurant to lack soul. This is our first solo venture, and everyone here is incredibly passionate about giving guests an enjoyable and genuine hospitality experience. I do hope you will re-visit soon.

With Best Regards

Tom
