I loved the first act. The acting, singing, dancing, and dialogue were terrific. I know a bit about Mormons because there were many in the small town in American in which I was brought up (not a town in Utah).
In the second act, it was still fun, but I was distracted by how insulting it was. From a play I expected something a bit more nuanced than a South Park episode, even though I knew that the South Park folks had written it. There was a South Park episode about a Mormon family that made fun of the religion, but also showed some of its nice aspects, something not in the play.
The bottom line is that every religion can be mocked for its ample irrationality. We usually don't dare be this mocking to other more major religions for fear of offense. I have to give the Mormons a lot of credit for not making a fuss about this musical.
Still, I do recommend the musical. Laugh, but don't be affected by it's portrayal of Mormons.
