“back to jack. Union Jack Club that is!”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

We have been back this week and no surprises it is just as good as always but with superb new house wines well worth a taste or two.
The rooms just the same individual rooms still totally spotless nice new toiletries and the finest toilet rolls of any hotel I have been in in 50 years.
It is a club for service personnel and you have to qualify by service or relationship to a service person but it is well worth it a single room just over £40 for JulY the night prior to Remembrance Day hotel accross the road I was quoted £189 wow.
Staff are brilliant, food is great, fantastic breakfast for £8 !
Though the layout is old because the building is old it is very well cared for with some great views from the upper floors.
We timed it as 4 minutes from the Old Vic and less than a minute from Waterloo Station.
It now has super littlest coffee bar in the lobby with great coffee at £1.20 for a good sized cup.
Really enjoyed it again.

Room Tip: Go for the best which is available. It is priced so that hard up armed forces can have a very reason...

we had a really large double room on the 6th floor. Disabled friendly and spotlessly clean. It was a no frills room but lacked no facility. The restaurant served fantastic and reasonable meals. The bar provided excellent sandwiches and good range of drinks. Most of all it was good to see the friendly nature of all residents and staff towards each other. A real home from home.

Stayed overnight as guests of an RN veteran. Superb accommodation next to Waterloo Station. Comfortable room, all mod cons, functional. Two guest chairs - all too often hotels leave one guest to sit on the bed. Lashings of hot water in the bathroom and central heating. Food in the restaurant was excellent. Stayed Friday night of the weekend of Lord Mayor's Show and Remembrance. Hotel was packed with jolly people reliving their memories. Some good 'community singing' in the bar. The only downside is that you need to be a Member of the UJ Club or be the personal guest of a Member to stay there.

Room Tip: If you can get a room on an upper floor (goes up to Floor 23). Good views over London skyline.

With the price of hotel rooms in London right now this is real value for money. The rooms are ok - between a Travelodge and a Premier Inn - but corridors and surroundings are very dated. Having said that the staff are very helpful and the breakfast is very good for £8. The location means it is very noisy whichever side of the building you are on. And there is no sound proofing so you can hear everything in the corridors and adjacent rooms. Overall though not bad for one night.

You are very lucky if you get the chance to stay here as it is restricted to certain personnel - you know who you are! The location is amazing, make sure you walk over Waterloo Bridge to get here - the views are spectacular. Plenty to do in the location, Konditor and Cook bakery around the corner, and Borough market within walking distance. The room was well looked after and very clean. Breakfast included freshly squeezed fruit juice. Lovely coffee's in the foyer - union jack was a nice touch, will definitely stay here again.

The hotel, bar and dining room all seem like a dated officer's mess.

We were pleased with our room apart from the strong smell of paint.

The bed was comfortable and a modern shower room good.

Disliked the fact there was no dead lock or chain on the inside of the door like there is in any other hotel room.

There was also no 'do not disturb' sign to hang on the door.

Check out is 12pm on a Sunday and after a late night we were going to make use of this extra time to sleep in before a long drive home.

Between 8.30 and 9am we could hear housekeeping knocking on other doors and then ours... Obviously due not being able to lock our door we had to respond... (If we'd of been in a deeper sleep we'd of been rather hacked off if someone had come in).

So no sleep-in as planned!

Breakfast was a buffet at £8 each which is good value and offered a good range of English breakfast items, cereal and some continental breakfast things, yoghurt, juice, tea and coffee.

As I say good value for money... Unless you only want toast!

Reception and waiting staff all friendly.

Would stay again if they had a better system of informing housekeeping about who had checked out instead of getting them to wake us up!!!
