“Exceeding expectations”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

Anticipation was high, as I was yearning for a Spanish / tapas dinner for a few days. When called for reservation on a Saturday evening and was told that by 7:30 there'll be plenty of space I did get a bit suspicious. However, decided to give it a try.
The entrance is on the main road (not hidden), but is pretty ordinary. The premises are in a very narrow and deep building (Dutch style). We were lead to the upper floor and shown to a table for four, that being the number of our party. We are fairly tall, and the seating was extremely cramped. Looking around I realized that the two facing benches and the table between them that we were given were part of a long and elaborate one-piece welded metal frame running the length of the building wall, so there was no way to move or adjust our seating in any way. Fortunately, 2 or 3 members of staff showed interest in our strife, and offered a number of solutions which led us to another more classic table, and our situation has immediately improved from "medieval torture" to just "small". The lighting and ambience were dim but fitting the mood. All through the staff were very supportive.
Having gotten the seating sorted, we got to ordering. Menu is not excessive, but rich and offers good variety, as is the drink list. We got a sampling plate of cheeses (with grapes and chutney, and another for the meats - both were excuiste. Then came the flow of food plates, all of which were very tasty, although the two chorizo dishes are worthy of a special comm
endation.
Asked for sangria, but had to go for the white version (no red available), which turned out to be a very good choice. Realizing that Port is a bit of a house specialty, ordered a degustation selection consisting of 3 50ml glasses with a different drink in each. Again, a very pleasant choice. A friendly waiter took the order and knowledgeably advised on details. The food was very tasty across the board, and when it came in contact with port, there was an explosion of very pleasant flavor. It was so nice that we asked for more of the same dishes, as portions weren't miniscule, but not large either.
The whole meal for 4 including drinks cost around £110. Hope to definitely come again! !

“Excellent find”

Drawn inside by a sign that read "keep calm and drink gin" to find some lovely gin cocktails! A friendly Irish/Spanish bar , didn't eat but looked great. Recommend to anyone in the area. Charming staff.

“Great find!!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

We visited here for the first time a year ago. My husband and I sat at the bar drinking beautiful red wine and ordered a number of tapas dishes. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff very friendly. We went back a few weeks ago and took the children (who were made very welcome) and again we were not disappointed with the food or drink. Well worth a visit!

“Best wine ever.”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

After a great meal in the Dublin branch & a casual promise we sought out the Strand address in hope of catching up with our host. We we're delighted to be met by a familiar face who not only gave us a great welcome but also remembered our wine choice from nine months previous in a different restaurant in a different country. The food was simple, clean and delicious, exactly what good tapas should be. The wine is the best we've ever had and for central London really well priced. Give it a go, you wont be disappointed.

“Gorgeous food!”
Reviewed August 24, 2013 via mobile

I had a delicious meal at The Port House in Ireland so once back in London I was ready to have the goat's cheese salad again!! The food wasn't as mind blowing as the Dublin branch but it still was fantastic and worth every penny. We had anchovies and almonds to nibble on which went in a heartbeat, then a range of vegetarian, seafood and meat tapas with a charcuterie plate and cheese plate. All fabulous and we fought over everything!! For dessert we had churros, Spanish creme brûlée (my favourite) and the almond tart.

We had two bottles of red too, their wine selection is really superb as is the selection of sherry and port for afters.

The service was superb and for £35 a head including tip we were all happy and full. I would totally recommend to any tapas lovers!
