“Great London home away from home”

We wanted to feel ‘at home’ during our six week stay in London, a place where we could retreat after a full day’s or evening’s experience of the sites, parks, streets and theatres of the city, or after a train trip to other parts of England. A standard B&B or hotel would not have served our purpose; therefore, the house in Elnathan Mews was ideal: with a short walk to the Underground (five minutes to Warwick Avenue, the nearest tube station, or two minutes to the bus stop), we could go anywhere we wanted in London in no time at all. And we could return to the lovely quiet of an elegant and yet casual home. Not just the house itself (replete with every convenience and comfort), but also a very interesting neighbourhood: the canal, the pleasant community park of Paddington Recreation Grounds, nearby shops and cafes, welcoming pubs (including the not-to-be-missed Prince Alfred within easy walking distance), and tree-lined streets of Victorian and Georgian row houses. Although tourists ourselves, we didn’t feel surrounded by tourists, which really is one of the charms of Elnathan Mews, even though the Little Venice canal is only a couple of blocks away.

The house offers everything one could possibly need, and is spacious enough to accommodate visiting family. For those rainy or lazy days and nights, an excellent library is available, as well as some fine DVD’s. Its value as a retreat from the crowds of the city resides not only in utilitarian convenience, but also in its historical ambience (yes, even a cobble stone street) and warm character. Robert Drew, the proprietor, is the soul of courtesy and concern for the well being of his visitors. Even though time passed by all too quickly, we felt as if the house was in fact our own: and that is the highest compliment and recommendation we can make.
