“Nice Surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013

I was recommended by a French friend of mine to eat at this restaurant which I previously avoided on the basis of how it looks. Koobla is the restaurant in Hotel Xanadu and as you walk past it wouldn’t attract a single glance let alone a second look, the colour scheme is subdued to the point of being dull and I’ve rarely seen more than 6 people in there at any time during the day, however the bland aesthetics belie the true sophistication of the food. I took my husband for lunch on Thurs afternoon to use our TasteCard 50% discount, we were seated by a friendly, welcoming waiter by the window and handed the express lunch menu, which is quite limited but adequate. We chose the lamb curry with Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce and coconut rice, and nasi goreng with deep fried bread rolls, whilst we waited a complimentary appetiser was brought to the table. The appetiser was a small dish of delicately flavoured coconut, authentically spiced with enough chilli to make one realize that this was Thai food, it was delicious but the waiter would not divulge the recipe. The restaurant is really spacious between tables so that even at full capacity there’s plenty of room to breathe and feel comfortable, pleasant jazz was played over the music system at a reasonable volume which made it very relaxing. The main course came after about 25 mins giving the distinct impression it was all cooked fresh and not warmed up from the previous night, presentation was impeccable and only outshone by the quality of the food. The lamb literally melted in the mouth, the sauce was hot and packed with flavour unlike so many other Thai eateries that are afraid of using chilli for fear of upsetting the uneducated palates of western Europeans. The deep-fried bread rolls were sweet and light rather like fresh doughnuts but far better and the nasi goreng was really authentic, and it was evident that all the food was cooked fresh. The waiters were attentive without being annoying and I could only use positive adjectives to describe their food, we will definitely be returning to sample the full variety of the Koobla menu.

“Tranquil restaurant to try fusion food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013

The food at Koobla is delicious and so interesting. The cocktails are really good. The decor is so cool and relaxing. The service is most attentive and helpful. I would make a strong plea to make the full menu available all day, particularly at the weekends, as it's too good to miss. There is plenty of space between tables and the music was soothing. You really forget you are in Bond Street, Ealing.

“Quite simply.....Excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

What an experience and a surprise.

The first thing that hits you is the decor and calming ambiance of the restaurant followed very quickly by the welcome of the staff.

The menu is not formatted very well as there are no starters immediately noticed but their are two prices on some of the items indicating starter prices.

The food is not your usual eastern but a fusion of Mongolian, Indian, Chinese etc and can highly recommend the Sesame Chicken Koobla Curry and just about everything on the menu. The quality of the meat and ingredients was superb with decent sized portions.

The service by the staff merits a special mention as it was exemplary and non intrusive.

I can highly recommend this restaurant and will be visiting again soon.

“Amazing food, great service and excellent ambience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

If you think you know all about fusion food then we cannot recommend Koobla highly enough. Exceptional food which so tantalises the taste buds with every mouthful!! Five of us visited, three had been two days previously and liked it so much that a repeat visit seemed essential. To get the best out of the meal we decided to share dishes. Black cod was brilliant, succulent and served with delicious herbs and spices. Sea bass, served with a different selection was equally successful and countered the wonderfully rich lamb curry. The tofu curry was lighter, less spicy but nevertheless very tasty and a mushroom dish which we decided to try as an afterthought was simply out of this world!
Can't recommend this restaurant highly enough!

“A warm welcome and a great cocktail”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2012

My vegan friend and I went to the hotel bar on Saturday night, bearing copies of a local magazine that entitled us to a free cocktail. We were warmly greeted by the bar staff, and the charming bar manager made us a wonderful cocktail - his own creation. He did not mind at all omitting the egg white from my friend's. We were offered delicious peanuts which had been spiced and roasted by the hotel's chef. We had half expected to be treated less well than paying guests, but were made to feel incredibly welcome. We will definitely go back, and be happy to pay for our cocktails next time.
