In London, as in any capital city, finding a decent bar – especially in a touristy area like Trafalgar Square – can be quite a challenge. But, if you know where you're going or you get good advice, then you may be fortunate to be directed to this pub.
I went last Saturday evening with a group of visually impaired friends which, because the pub was very busy, was quite challenging. We started off in the downstairs bar but decided to go to a quieter part of the pub upstairs.
Although quite crowded, the atmosphere was very friendly, in stark contrast to so many other London pubs.
We soon found seats and were very comfortable. Fortunately, the staff were amazingly helpful and offered to carry ale back to our seats upstairs. Without that assistance, things could have been quite hazardous – especially as the spiral staircase was quite difficult to navigate.
Turning to the real ale, there was plenty of choice available. I tried a number of different beers, all of which were very well kept.
If you're a fan of real ale or just like a decent pub, Harp Bar is well worth going out of your way for. To be honest, the help we received from the staff alone would merit an excellent rating.
