“Good beers, average bar”
Reviewed March 19, 2014 via mobile

Being a local pub with local brews this was a nice place to stop on a tour of soho. A bar with good history (Adam Smith) and a good place to go with friends and chat. The bartenders were helpful, though I wouldn't say out of their way friendly or anything. The upstairs was open and had good plaques with historical knowledge and pictures. However, the bathroom stalls had no locks in either the men's or women's side.

“Small, but rather well formed pub!”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

The John Snow has a great buzz, in a great location. It's only a small pub, but being a Samuel Smiths' pub, it has a great selection of beers. Several different lagers, bitters and extra stout on tap, and the usual selection of Sam Smiths' bottled beers, including one of my favourites, Nut Brown Ale.
Not the place to go if you want a quiet chat and a sit down, but great for an aperitif before dinner. Even in the cold weather, the crowds tend to spill out onto the street to enable the smokers to still get their hit of nicotine. A fairly narrow staircase leading to the bar upstairs can get quite congested during peak times, but not a huge issue for me.
Bar staff score 5 out of 10 - not offensive, but not what you might call friendly. Shame really, as with decent, friendly staff, this could be an outstanding pub.

“Poor toilet policy”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

Had an otherwise good night spoilt by the barman a Mr Graham refusing to let anyone use the toilet after he had called last orders and urging a great many disgruntled customers to go in the street. Shocking.Surley they have some duty to provide facilities or at least notify that they are going to close the toilets.
