Description: The Pig and Butcher occupies a handsome pub built in the mid 1800's on what was fields used by farmers to rest and feed their livestock before being sent to Smithfield's Meat Market. We have brought the pub back to it's roots and receive carcasses straight from the farm and butcher them on site. We specialise in rare breeds such as White Park cattle, Iron Age pigs and Hebridean lamb while our friend Seb at Chart Farm supplies our game - if you haven't tried his venison you haven't lived! In summer we grill over coal and wood on our specially built Robata grill. In winter we brine, cure, smoke and braise.Vegetables come from Kent and are as good and as fresh as anything you'll find in this country. Our fish is supplied by Rupert on the south coast. He calls us in the morning and tells us what the day boats have caught and what he has. This is one of the reasons our menu changes so much - we literally don't know what fish we'll be serving until we have spoken with Rupert! We take our inspiration from farmhouse tables across Europe. Food is served simply and with little fuss! Share lots of small plates or a single big plate. We like the idea of bringing conversation back to the dining table and what better way to do it than sharing/stealing food? Think of food as Granny used to make…

Perfect place if looking for a quality gastro pub in islington, or even just a pub to catch up with mates. Very relaxed, great selection of beers and wine and friendly staff who are more than happy to discuss whats on offer. Hopefully this won't become like the Albion nearby where its now next to impossible to get a table at unless pre-booking in advance.. Def worth a visit!

What a great place to celebrate with friends.

We booked it through email from Canada and they were incredibly accomodating... and that was just the beginning.

We entered this funky looking spot to be greeted by lots of energy as you enter right into the high energy room. The owner/chef greeted us within 10 minutes of being sat, which was a nice touch.

The food was very fresh, had depth of flavour and was well presented. The specials really were special that night, so I suggest you check out the chalk-board on your way in.

The meat was ultra fresh, (so their name proved correct). This is a restaurant that knows how to prepare pork, chicken and beef. All of which were ordered at our table with the result being a resounding 'mmmmmmmmm.'

The cocktails were very well crafted (obviously trained bartenders) and their real ales were appreciated by the "Ale" drinkers at the table. The bar area gets very crowded, so if you are going just for a drink, get there relatively early or book a table.

For a quiet intimate dinner, probably not. But for a fun party with great food and wine it is a great choice.

Excellent selection of craft beers, great staff and a great steak.

Only let down was the slightly slow service but in fairness they were busy

Well worth a visit

Our family and Labrador, visited the Pig and Butcher last Sunday. We had to take our dog because having driven all the way from Sussex, we couldn't leave her in the car. It turned out to be a brilliant choice of venue. The staff were welcoming and gave excellent service. We did arrive by 12.15 to secure a table, just as well as the place was already nearly full. We had a choice of roast lamb, beef, pork or a whole chicken to share. ., all served with giant individual Yorkshire pudding. It was delicious and our student son, who is in halls, 10 minutes away, was very impressed indeed. Reservations can be made in the restaurant but because we had the dog, had to eat in the bar. Lovely desserts available and good coffee. I would definitely go back.

Two of us shared the 35-day old rib last Saturday. It was simply amazing. Cooked to perfection - crispy around the bone, pinky-red in the middle, with fried onions, a touch of gravy, salad leaves and the fattest double-cooked chips ever!

It is definitely the best of the gastro pubs Islington has to offer. It was a busy Saturday evening, but we were well looked after, never neglected and drank a stonking bottle of red too!

I can't wait to go back.
